Funny, but that tell you nothing. We do too much of it. The entire communist movement does too much of it. I don’t like, imho.

Yeah, an unpopular opinion, I’m sure, but I feel that they affect us psychologically; they make us dumb down the stories of communist activism and organizing and make it seem like a cartoon when, in fact, there’s more to it that we could learn from and apply in our own time.

Yeah, but I don’t think watching Gremlins during holiday season will destroy the potentially close revolution in the future lol

If anything, you might be inspired for a bit of new year’s direct action.

Started but haven’t finished Electric Dreams, a series based on different short stories by Phillip K Dick.

I generally don’t watch movies or tv. The last things I watched were RT historical documentaries. Subscription services are a waste of money. Use putlocker, primewire, or torrent it if you’re going to consume such media.

I’m hoping to start watching the My Hero Academia dub relatively soon. I read that the dub is one of the only times that a dub is considered better than sub.

I’m currently reading the manga first, and I’d like to finish the manga at its current point before I watch the show. I’ve read the first 8 volumes.

I do not watch movie since I had become more interested in text-based novels, visual novels, and manga.

I’ve watched far too many films this Christmas!

The good ones, with some good politics (I think these are the names):

    • See How They Run
    • Man of Action
    • Trial of the Chicago 7
    • Cutthroat City
    • Amsterdam
    • Glass Onion

One that I’d been meaning to watch for years, but which really let me down (I’d probably have enjoyed it when it came out):

    • Notorious

And I’ve been watching War of the Worlds. This was a strange one. Three quite different seasons. My spoilers will spoil the story. Don’t read if you want to watch it!

    Spoilers…

    spoiler

    Fascist undertones throughout, unfortunately.

First season. Some flaws but I was left wanting more. Family sci fi. Enough in there for geeks. Gentle enough that normies could enjoy it. Some terribly eugenicist messages that were less eugenicist-y by the end. No redeeming story arc for the message that it’s okay to pre-emptively murder, murder, and more murder.

Second season. Mostly shite. Creepy teenage drama with a sci fi back drop, but very little sci fi. Lots of creepiness. I spent the whole season wondering who it was written for and how tf production got so far as general release without someone saying, ‘hang on, are we sure we want people to see this?’ Did I mention it was creepy: boy decides girl loves him because of a dream so he has a right to her and to her procreative organs and she will be happy or locked up for her own safety.

Third season. Strong, but another thematic shift. This time, classic hard-ish sci fi. Good for the fans that kept watching for that element. Apparently we should feel sorry for ‘aliens’ (who are really humans from the future) who will die if they don’t harvest blood from human-humans without their consent, even though the alien humans murdered 99.9 recurring humans without blinking in season one. Also some reductionist utilitarianism written by someone who’s maybe read a summary of the Wikipedia page on Bentham.

Possibly three completely different teams writing each season. But it could be that the writers knew that season 2 was so bad that only the geeks would be back for no. 3, hoping one of the writers remembered this was supposed to be a sci fi show. What the show missed was a good writer with a veto power, a scientist with a veto power, and most importantly a Marxist with an overall veto power. Then it could have been excellent.

Why did I watch all three seasons? 1. The Spanish dub was very good. 2. I kinda needed to know how the story would be resolved after the first couple of episodes. And after each episode in S2, I thought, surely we must get back to the main story in this episode.

        The war of the worlds?

No it’s by EPIX, 2019. It’s set in England and France.
