I hate how Ukrainian nationalists claim that communism was forced on them by the Russians, even though Ukrainians were just as much part of the Soviet Union as the Russians. Ukrainians built up the Soviet Union as well, but to them it’s all Russian imperialism. Seems very insulting to their own countrymen to be honest. Do they forget Brezhnev was from Ukraine?

The ukranian nationalists were the reactionary forces of the region, you can bet they have their origins on aristocracy and the early bourgeoisie, so of course they claim they got wronged.

Okay hear me out, shaming people for showering less is ableist and poverty/houseless shaming, not everyone is able to shower consistently and like most people who don’t shower very often would want to have the ability to shower more, like there’s obviously depression and if you live with conditions where you can only have enough to drink any drop of water after that will be split on cleaning yourself and your clothes and you can’t do only of those or you’ll still smell bad anyway.

Shower with your clothes on. Bonus points if you piss in the shower too. It saves water! #SaveTheTurtles #Kony2012

Unironically did this when I was homeless. I’d save up for the cheapest hotel/hostel I could find and just wash my clothes while I was in the shower.

I understand that may not be an option for homeless folks who don’t have a source of income though.

Isn’t this pretty common? When traveling, backpacking, homeless, or without general access to a washing machine; isn’t it fairly common for people to dump their clothes in a bathtub with some detergent and then scrub and mix them around?

That’s what I always did at least. Does the same thing as a machine just a lot more tiring.

Good to hear you’re no longer in that situation though.

I still don’t have access to a washing machine, so I wash my clothes in a bucket, detergent does 90% of the work in cleaning clothes, washing machines just save time because you don’t need to manually wash your clothes around.

It’s much less worrying than doing it while homeless though, it’s not fun hoping clothes will dry overnight before you have to leave the hotel, and going to work in damp clothes.

Reminds me of a line in a Soviet comedy (Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath), where the main character, a kind of goofy middle-aged dude who’s somehow made it through medical school, goes with his friends to a sauna on New Year’s Eve. One of them gets drunk on vodka he’s smuggled in and starts pontificating about how private bathrooms are destroying civilization. “At home, this beautiful ritual becomes – a mere washing off of dirt.”

Also happens in Starship Troopers. All the veterans are missing limbs and are confined to wheelchairs, crutches, arm slings; as prosthetics are all but unheard of because they are perversely proud and happy to have gotten their disfigurements and disabilities.

Ukraine never had nuclear weapons. USSR did. USSR was dismantled and soviet nuclear weapons were moved from the now “independent” Ukraine to the state that was named USSR’s successor in terms of international agreements - Russian Federation.

I understand this may sound like nitpicking, but it is important to keep the distinction in mind when parsing bourgeoisie propaganda

I’m thinking about working towards a long trip next year. Maybe I’ll sell all my stuff even. I would love to hike to Santiago in Spain from my house which will take several months. It’s a thought that keeps me going.

Took my cat to the vet just now. She had dental issues, so we went to get it checked with a dentist. Dentist said it’s tooth resorption and can’t be cured, so she needs surgery. Which will require sedation. And since she’s overweight, sedation will mean intubation, because she wouldn’t be able to breathe otherwise. Wish her luck.

The news in Belgium today for some reason started a live blog on Ukraine again. The headline said, in big letters: PUTINS WANTS TO DECLARE WAR ON NATO.

Needless to say it scared the shit out of me. Here I was thinking Russia may actually do it because of the way it was phrased. But it turns out it was just a US think tank that said it.
