Bit idea: horiffic dystopian imperialist army but they’re cutting corners everywhere, like instead of having prosthetic super soldiers they just cut their feet and replace them with wooden pegs

Imperial Guard and Navy in warhammer 40k do that sometimes. Higher ups and nobles may get proper bionics, but rank and file? Shit outta luck

Also happens in Starship Troopers. All the veterans are missing limbs and are confined to wheelchairs, crutches, arm slings; as prosthetics are all but unheard of because they are perversely proud and happy to have gotten their disfigurements and disabilities.

Star Wars also has physically disabled people that can’t afford prosthetics or upgrades.

That’s because we do live in a dystopian post-apocalyptic cyberpunk future. Those pretty neon and rain pictures you’ve seen in cyberpunk themed media? That was advertising, same as pictures of USian suburbs in the 50’s

Exactly. They aren’t the neat little houses with white picket fences and smiling neighbours. That’s just the advertising - like in Back to the Future
