I hear “leftists” saying we should be mad about this because russias government is neoliberal and this is just abusing soviet nostalgia. but I disagree because they never take into account the fact that the soldiers themselves may be comrades and they are fighting fascists.
Russia has the soviet vision in living memory AND their closest ally is building socialism which looks to have a bright future.
If the neoliberalism lasts long enough; the people of Russia is gonna start asking specific questions:

Yea fr I can let US left cry till the cows come home, end of the day, Russian soldiers, not their banks or oligarchs, are fighting against literal Nazis and Fascist/terrorist forces(at best, they are drafted, and I feel sorry that their disgusting government puts their lives on the line) and the narrative of Russia fighting against Nazis rings true again, let them take their picture, it’s better than the Soviet Bashing of the early Russian Federation.
Drafted troops weren’t supposed to be in use in the war over the border but I’ve seen conflicting reports of “mistakes” that were made with some of them. I suspect we won’t have a clear picture of exactly what numbers were and weren’t until it’s over and the dust settles.
I think they’re talking about AFU using conscripts, which isn’t a contested thing.
Even just soviet nostalgia is infinitely better than liberal/conservative anticommunism. Because it make basically impossible to censor communism even if the government is anticommunist.
