Reminder that the Class 1 freight railroads fight tooth and nail against better rail safety measures that are now standard in Europe and Asia, because it would force them to change their operating procedures and hurt their efficiency (read: profitability).

This is also why freight corridors in North America are almost never suitable for parallel passenger service. Because it’s so unsafe.

It’s also why more people are killed by trains in the US than places that rely way more on rail and have way more trains in extremely dense downtowns. Like China, Japan, and the EU.

Crazy how comically evil the US is, truly surreal how every problem can easily be traced back to greed. It’s way harder to criticise the EU from the inside because at least they work to themselves seem likable with regulations like the ones you mentioned. Yet, American libs look even more eager to justify their genocidal neglectful nightmare of a state than Europeans

That makes sense. Technically all the people that died/will die from the derailment in Ohio (very weird to type that out) should be counted as killed by a train.

And as always, the train itself is never the problem. Nor are the operators. The asshole humans at the top of the company controlling both are.

I feel for the conductor and driver who are probably getting raked over the coals for what really wasn’t their fuckup.

I remember a while back some one posted on shit reactionary says and it was a screen shot of someone on 4 chan saying something along the line of “be Chinese, another 2 trains derailed killing 200 people, go on internet to post how China is the greatest country in the world” and at the time my reaction was they are literally just talking about America.

gringos are bloodthirsty, sad creatures that love to daydreaming about chinese infrastructure collapsing as a way to cope with their own imploding little empire

That is a very dangerous way of thinking, seeing it in America is very scary.

That didn’t occur to me until you mentioned it, but now I’m surprised too. Do you think they’ll manage to find a way to blame the balloon for this? lol

Balloons or some mysterious “saboteurs”. The latter also works as a preemptive narrative strike against actual saboteurs working for USA interests in Russia and China

This one’s a nothingburger, no extremely hazardous chemicals. Disturbing though for sure.
