I wanna watch movies about the USSR, WW2, Cold War etc minus all the anti-communist bs Hollywood plasters their films with, any recommendations comrades? Maybe even some old Soviet productions?

I almost forgot about Parasite, hope you did see it! Such a masterpiece … it’s constructed in such a way that it will fool most bourgeois to think the movie confirms their bias of seeing poor people as parasites, and yet … Absolute historical masterpiece …

    https://tropicsofmeta.com/2020/02/17/reading-colonialism-in-parasite/

I have to say I feel very proud for understanding this and most of the details this article mentions on my own on the first time I watched it, and thus had the opportunity to explain it to virtually everybody else who didn’t understand much of those details and what they meant.

Seventeen Moments of Spring. It’s a Soviet multi-series movie about a Soviet secret agent working undercover as a Gestapo officer. It’s a classic for a reason.

In a similar vein - Variant Omega, also about intelligence officers.

Avoid Russian movies made recently, i.e. the one about Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya. It’s bourgeoisie revisionism galore.

Watch this. there should be english subs in the youtube. It’s based on the Seventeen Moments of Spring but much better, and genuninly one of the best spy series ever produced.

Fun fact: it’s still very popular in Poland, but the last episode is censored out of the series because it shows Americans in unfavourable light.

There also this one, worse but more based politically and more action oriented.

Year Hare Affair is a cute little cartoon series, but unfortunately most of the episodes aren’t subbed :(

Maybe this one and this one…

Wandering Earth is a nice movie with some cool effects

I’ve been meaning to watch something about the Chinese civil war/Sino-japanese war, it’s something never really touched by western entertainment to my knowledge, thanks!

Ah The Eight Hundred and the Hundred Regiment Offensive might be a good one for the second Sino-Japanese war.

Couldn’t find a direct link but The Crossing also spans WW2 to the civil war.

I quite liked the TV series <亮剑> as it spans from the united front in WW2 to the civil war, unfortunately I couldn’t find any English subtitled links to share :(

Somebody clipped and subtitled a battle scene from another TV series called <三八线>

Thank you so much for these recommendations. I have been working my way through The War of Loong / 龙之战, The Eight Hundred / 八佰, and Hundred Regiment Offensive / 百团大战.

And I think this is a link for The Crossing / 太平轮: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGn_P2L5jOI

I’ll watch The Crossing / 太平轮 over the next few days.

I tried to learn Mandarin a few years ago but most of the movies / series I found were rubbish, which took the joy out of it. If only I knew about these sources back then! Now I can find some enjoyable movies in Chinese, I might try picking up the language again. Thanks again.

EDIT: The most complex sentence I was able to make (and it may not make sense) was 我是慢慢的学生的中文。

Not really the full movie. Gaijins made computer graphics and worked combat encounters. The movie itself is a partially crowd-funded project by some of our Russian dramatic drum roll fucking monarchists. They intentionally made the movie completely sterile and cut out everything soviet out of it. Other than that - a good movie, compared to all the rest of the cringe we had for years since Soviet Union fell apart.

Even that might be gone due to YouTube going haywire and deleting Russian channels affiliated with state departments and organisations.

Cliffwalkers from last year was rad. While non-fiction, its about soviet-trained Chinese spies that are sent to infiltrate the occupying Japanese invaders.

Watch “Dark City” from Alex Proyas. It’s about creepy white people controlling the world through alienation, disguised behind science-fiction, à la Matrix. I highly recommend watching the pervert’s guide to ideology multiple times as well as They Live from John Carpenter before watching Dark City.

Quick analysis of the ideology, big spoiler, you will probably want to try to understand it on your own rather than reading this :

    divulgâche

A working man, with an uncle called Karl spelled with a K and that probably is the only non-cop character of the movie with a gun btw, awakens from the alienation and through class consciousness, takes control of the machine, and use them to create a different world, where workers no longer just dream of on going on vacation. Through regained class consciousness people become kinder to one another (the old man letting Jennifer Connelly take his sit on the bus to shellbeach at the end) and start living their life.

here’s an extract of the script towards the very end of the movie :

    -Hi, Uncle Karl. -Johnny!

Getting the hang of it, John. Maybe one day I'll work for you.

Here's the machine the Strangers use to amplify their thoughts,

the machine that changes their world.

You must take control of it. You must make the machine yours.

I know you can beat them, but you must concentrate.

               Something's wrong.

There is no time for romance.

The world can be what you make it.

    edit : another extract :

    Jane and little Matthew.

             The rich get richer.

            Probably have maid's quarters...

            before the night is through.

T-34 is nazi apologya with a dozens of plotholes and fake history moments. Please don’t watch it, it’s made by basically anti-communist/monarchist, it pushes idea about how nazis warent that bad under soviet victory sauce. It’s ver very overhyped. Good graphics and nothing more. Trust me as i’m Russian

Zhavoronok (1965), the film that T-34 (2018) is a very loose remake of is said to be better. Problem is, I can’t find it with English subtitles.
