I mean, what’s Russia going to do? Enforce the debts owned by Ukrainian companies?

Bullshit. They’ve been bombing and killing “their citizens” since 2014. The LPR and DPR do not consider themselves Ukrainian anymore – exemplified by the fact that, well, they have formed their own countries.

If/when there is a referendum they will absolutely take part in it and they will absolutely vote to leave Ukraine. Jailtime or no. What is Ukraine gonna do anyway?

It’s not about LPR or DPR, it’s about other places. Mariupol, Kherson etc.

Mariupol is in the DPR, Those two aren’t just the capital cities, but the entire former oblasts. Kherson and Zaporozhye are separate oblasts yes, but both them two and the LPR and DPR will be holding referenda on joining the RF, and since the Ukraine does not recognise the (factual) independence of the LPR and DPR, it makes sense that they would consider LDNR citizens voting to join the RF in this legislation.

Pretty smart tbh, that way the referendums will have ridiculously high % of votes for unification and every media un UKR and west will conststly drum about false referendum.

Then again, probably not, since they will say so no matter what, and the sheer dumbassery and malice required to issue such bill with face value is rather normal state for UKR lawmakers.

I think their objective is more in the hopes of hampering turnout. The percentage of people who participate in a vote is sometimes seen as a sign of its legitimacy. Any “No” votes will already be protesting this election, so I doubt this action will affect the percent for each choice.

But for real, i think it’s just typical fascist lashing out, it checks all the marks.

there’s already a war. The Russians are already in control. You can’t prove who voted or how they voted.

That’s all they have left. It’s a state losing its ability to enact state violence. It’s a futile effort. They’re shouting into the void at people who aren’t listening

Ukrainian government. The main cause of Ukrainians wanting to join RF since 2014. Still doing good on that front I see.
