truly, to this day, they can’t get their fking template inheritance fixed in their django, which - if you use adblock - seriously makes the site almost unusable, somehow their parser misses closing tags when you filter the add and boom : you have layers shift all over the place

Hello! This website has a better design than r*ddit by far.

What do we call its users? Lemmies?

      Lemmings!

If you’re looking for other options, there were this thread and this thread a while ago. But seriously, I like “Lemmings”, even if just saying “Lemmy users” is less ambiguous.

Don’t hesitate to ask if there’s something you don’t understand, lemmy takes a little getting used to but you should get familiar with it in a day or two.

This might not be the place to ask, but how do you find other subreddits lemmygrads on here? I’m only subscribed to communism because it’s the default and genzedong because I know its name.

we generally just call them communities or sublemmys haha

on pc you can click on communities at the top : https://lemmygrad.ml/communities to explore them, or on the right from the main page you can see active communities. By default your timeline should be set to “local” though, which lets you see every community on lemmygrad, regardless of whether you are subscribed there or not.

Since lemmy is federated, you can also click on “all” to see federated topics from, say, lemmy.ml. You can also subscribe to them, all from lemmygrad, which will then let them show up in your “subscribed” view.

Yeah been using Lemmy for a while. Superior to Reddit in everyway. No one can ban/quarantine us, because federation.

Needs a better Android app though.

its probably struggling because of the amount of people trying to use it so quickly, i had trouble just loading it for a little while after the announcement on the subreddit.

Are you sure you are trying to log into lemmygrad? If this app works like jerboa, then you have to check lemmygrad instance, because lemmy and lemmygrad require separate accounts iirc

AFAIK, most Lemmy instances are running on single machines. Either dedicated servers, or virtual private servers for some smaller instances. The infrastructure is far from the level of on-demand scalability, sharding databases, and globally distributed CDNs that corporate social media platforms like Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter rely on. There will be growing pains. These servers are probably getting 10 times the load they do on an ordinary day. The volunteers who make this shit work will respond in time, and the door is open for any hackers in the community to contribute (particularly if you know PostgreSQL, Rust, or TypeScript).
