DuckDuckGo have publicly announced a few weeks back that they will downrank all Russian news sites. Its the worst search engine to get unbiased news on this war.

This image never fails to make me laugh, and I’ve seen it at least 10 times by now.

Zelensky is a puppet president. He has absolutely no authority. If the US told him to resign today, he would.

That’s a bit beyond my expertise, but thanks for answering.

Follow-up question: Would setting it up in a way that it is connected to the internet, but when it gets disconnected, it automatically works over the network?

Reason: My country is going through rough times, and sometimes the internet connection is lost/gets extremely slow. It can last from 10 minutes to a few hours. I want to find a solution to this, so that we can remain productive without disruption (like if the internet went down, everything should remain working automatically without us interfering and losing focus)

Running Nextcloud on a Raspberry Pi without internet
Would self-hosting a Nextcloud instance locally without an internet connection be viable? Use case: Around 5 people need to share files over the network, collaborate on Office documents in real-time, use GitLab, and a To-do/Task management tool. Beyond the initial setup, does any of these requirements need an active Internet connection, or can we all connect to the Raspberry Pi server via Ethernet?

Good question. Yes this can be solved. Lemmygrad (or any instance) can choose not to be part of the Fediverse, so that you as a Lemmygrad user won’t be able to see other instances, and they can’t see you.

The Lemmygrad admins also have the option to not federate with a particular instance, such that they are connected to the Fediverse, but not to fascist instances for example.

Lebanon. It’s more common in certain Chrisitian areas.

Whats sad is that it works very well, and not only on Americans. A lot of people in my country call themselves “Americanized”. Which I personally take to mean “I have an IQ of 50”, which is very accurate.

“I have come to support this religion.”

Said in fancy words, so it sounds like someone ancient has said it, like a Prophet Mohammad quote.

Lemmur is currently broken. Jerboa is your best bet. You can find an APK on github, or you can get it on F-droid afaik.

What are they gonna do if he broke the contract’s terms? Sanction him?

Welcome comrade! Read the sticky posts to get a better feel of this place. There already are a lot of active communities other than !genzedong@lemmygrad.ml, maybe some might interest you as well.

We are fed the lie that the US is the most powerful country in the world since birth. Great to see it isn’t the truth.

China is the most powerful country on earth

That statement always gives me goosebumps

We should have a /c/SelfawareWolves

Maybe it’s because I haven’t tried VR in any meaningful way yet, but I can’t imagine VR going beyond gaming (not that this article implied otherwise). All this Metaverse stuff don’t seem viable to me that much. It will exist, I doubt it, but it will not be used in a serious manner in the long term.

I think the messaging industry has reached its peak. All niches have been filled already, and no new messenger can pass through. It is the perfect time to do something like this.

Note: By messaging industry, I mean personal messengers like Whatsapp, Messenger, Telegram, and Signal. I believe that Team/Group messengers like Discord, Slack, MS Teams can still be dethroned. None of them checks all the boxes.

Lemmur seems to be broken currently. I recommend Jerboa as an alternative.

Yeah, biggest let down since No Man’s Sky release. At least NMS got better.

He have said that it was Jif multiple times before.

Might be easier said than done since I don’t have active social media accounts, but my boss can just fuck off. I post on my private account whatever I want.

Agreed comrade. It is up to us the early adopters to inform others about the Fediverse, and to be very active, so that the communities aren’t empty when others come to join.

While I don’t really find the concept of interacting with Mastodon/Friendica using Lemmy useful, I agree that using federated services should be the future, as it is the only way to ensure our freedom and privacy.

Yeah never thought of that aspect. And pills + condom would be an overkill the vast majority won’t do.

I’m talking about privacy and freedom respecting services going out of their way to submit to western politics. I like my services unbiased.

This would be beneficial if you’re not a user, but want to watch a video that someone sent you. The main problem is that it lacks the FYP (For you page), which is the endless stream of videos Tiktok’s algorithm thinks you should be interested in.

Obviously, most here would agree that the lack of the FYP is a good thing. Not disagreeing, just thought it was worth mentioning.

North Korea has more than three haircuts.

My life so far has been a lie

It only took this long because Russia doesn’t want to attack Ukrainian cities in an indiscriminate way, which would result in the death of tens of thousands of civilians.

Great news, and solves a major problem. If this works and have higher chance of working than condoms, it will have a lot of other social implications as well.

Probably never gonna use it as I prefer KDE, but this seems like a great update.

No problem! Let me know if you have any questions.

After years of using Linux and recommending it to advanced and casual users alike, the safest option was Linux Mint. Similar interface to Windows, works great out of the box, and has enough GUI menus so that you rarely have to mess with the terminal. 100% recommend it over Ubuntu and PopOS.

[MegaPost] What are Lemmy, Lemmygrad, and Federation?
Most of you reading this are here because /r/GenZedong was quarantined. While this place is very similar to Reddit, it also has a major difference that can make it a bit confusing, which is the Federation part. Without wasting anyone's time, I'll explain things right away. # 1) What is Lemmy? -------------------- Lemmy is a link-aggregator, similar to sites like Reddit and HackerNews. But unlike Reddit, it isn't really a website you can visit, it is just a source code. But that code is Open Source, meaning anyone can see it, edit it, and use it. It was designed in such a way that you can easily take the code and create your own website with it (with some technical knowledge of course). So you can buy the domain FuckRedditLibs.com right now and make it a Lemmy website, or as we call it, a Lemmy "Instance". # 2) What is Lemmygrad? ------------------ As you can all deduce by now, Lemmygrad is a Lemmy instance. Someone took the Lemmy code, bought the Lemmygrad.ml domain, and hosted the code there. The admins of Lemmygrad.ml only control Lemmygrad.ml, they have no authority over other instances. But that means that *no one* has authority over Lemmygrad.ml except Lemmygrad.ml admins. If you create an instance, there is no higher power you have to adhere to like in Reddit. You are the captain now. If you look at Lemmygrad.ml as a standalone website, a rival to Reddit, you don't have to understand what Federation means. You can create a user account, create/join a community (subreddit), post links/images/text, basically most things you expect to do. So unlike what some might think, Lemmygrad isn't just GenZedong. GenZedong is just a community there ([!genzedong@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/genzedong)). There are other communities obviously, like [!communism@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/communism) , [!shitliberalssay@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/shitliberalssay) , and [!memes@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/memes) . You can see a list of all the communities [here](https://lemmygrad.ml/communities). # 3) What does Federation mean? ------------------ Though as said before, you can look at Lemmygrad as a standalone website. But you aren't really supposed to. What makes Lemmy powerful is the federation aspect. So Lemmygrad.ml exists. Lemmy.ml also exists (it is the instance created by the Lemmy developers, but that doesn't make it anymore "official" or important than other instances, all instances are equal). The cool thing is that all the instances are connected. If you create an account on Lemmygrad.ml, you can also view and participate with communities from all other instances! Don't believe me? Check my username. It should say [@MarcellusDrum@lemmy.ml](https://lemmy.ml/u/MarcellusDrum), which means I have created my account in Lemmy.ml, but I can post here in [!genzedong@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/genzedong) , which is a Lemmygrad.ml community. This is difference between the "Local" and "All" filter you see at the top of the home page. "Local" means posts from communities in your instance, and "All" means posts from communities from all federated instances. You can see the name of the instance after the usernames/name of the communities. But as we said, even though they are federated, all instances are standalone sites. So [!communism@lemmy.ml](https://lemmy.ml/c/communism) and [!communism@lemmygrad.ml](https://lemmygrad.ml/c/communism) can coexist, with different moderators, posts, users and rules. They are completely independent places. As such, if you created an account by going to Lemmygrad.ml, your account is linked to this instance. You can't go to Lemmy.ml and login using the same account there. Accounts aren't federated. So everytime you have to login, you will have to go to Lemmygrad.ml (or the instance you created your account on). If you are using an application like Lemmur, you have to specify which instance your account is linked to. Same with communities, account names are only unique in an instance. Someone can use your exact username in another instance. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Some people don’t understand how Lemmy works because of the Federation, which might make things confusing at first. I will make a post explaining how things work to the new people, and the mods can sticky it/add it to the sidebar if they want.

Original article title might be a bit misleading, as it is a vaccine, it protects from future infections, not already infected monkeys. Still an amazing advancement.

Modern alternatives to the Clean Code book?
I'm a junior developer, and I'm looking for a book that teaches code design concepts. Clean Code is the most recommended book I saw, but it is also extremely controversial. Any alternatives to read? I'm not a complete beginner as I have a Bachelor's degree in CS, but I'm fairly new to the concept of writing "clean code".
