Living memory = past people “weren’t part from”

Like yeah dude, they literally were “part from” that past. Kissinger, just as a totally random example of a war criminal, was born in 1923. He would have been 38 years old when Lumumba was murdered. He’s still, at a decrepit 99 years old, benefiting heavily from his involvement in war crimes. As are his descendants. As are the people who helped orchestrate his crimes. This is living fucking memory! Not some paragraph from a high school fucking history book! People are benefiting and people are suffering because of the fucked up shit Europe did and continues to do, not only today, not only 60 fucking years ago, but fucking centuries ago. This is what liberal, individualist solipsism gets you – main character syndrome and a complete fucking absense of historical memory or simple human empathy.

Apologies for the angry tone. Just that it does make me angry, is all.

I was going to comment on the shitlib being Moroccan and how that may impact their view of Algerian resistance, but you (if that’s you) absolutely destroyed them there. It’s like the antithesis to the “I’m not racist, I have a black friend”, motherfuckers are really saying “well I don’t know anyone who was personally involved in the conflict so people should get over it”. Fuck’s sake.

What the hell have europeans learned from their past lol. None of them have ever had to apologize for colonialism except the nazis, when they did a colonialism of western europe too. And also they haven’t stopped exploiting Africa, its just changed forms into neocolonialism, and they call it “Debt restructuring” carried out via the world bank and IMF.

It’s not like they stopped exploiting Africa. Even if their argument is that it was the past, that’s wrong because it isn’t.

Yes they have apologized, and not paid any reparations.

In order to conquer Congo, King Leopold’s army was backed and funded by almost the entire capitalist industrial class.

The raw materials were robbed from the Congo, processed in Wallonia and shipped through the Port of Antwerp. This lead to the booming industry in the south and made Antwerp one of the three largests ports in the world. Brussels as a city got massive upgrades in houses, parks, palaces etc. Belgium was build on the genocide of ten million Congolese people and the robbing of their raw materials.

To say there are no longer consequences to this day is just wrong. Congo gained independence only 62 years ago in 1960. It still has not recovered.
