Some of the shows being memory-holed were hits; Summer Camp Island had 100 episodes and tons of fans! Others were about to premiere new seasons, which now no one will ever see. Creators spent YEARS pouring themselves into these projects; most weren’t even told this was happening.

This picture of our crew represents 37 teams of artists who found out online that their shows were being stripped from HBO MAX and for some, episodes we worked on for two years during a pandemic would never be released. @discoveryplus has no respect for artists

In related news:

HBO Max is expected to layoff around 70% of their development staff

And interestingly:

During #WarnerBrosDiscovery’s earnings call, HBO Max was identified as “male skew” while Discovery+ was considered “female skew.”

The grapes of wrath will be a nostalgic story soon. We’ve even got dust bowls coming back, but even bigger this time.

Just a personal gripe but I really enjoyed Close Enough, the creators of Regular Show’s adult cartoon. It delved into a lot of complex topics like aging, drug use and parenting and wasn’t as afraid to diss the capitalist system as Regular Show was, although I wouldn’t go so far to call it based. It was a good show. :(

Probably going to see a surge in pirating TV shows after this.

Coincidentally, seeing people express their disappointment in Close Enough’s cancellation is actually what got me started on watching it yesterday. There are times when it feels like a generic ‘adult cartoon’, but it still makes me laugh out loud at other times and features subject matters that actually feel adult, something that few cartoons have done for me. I appreciate that.

Because, honestly? Just hearing the term ‘adult comedy’ is almost enough to induce groans in me. It’s not that I hate the concept; it’s how roughly 90% of them are executed, because they don’t typically deal with themes that most children would find uninteresting or hard to understand: depression, separation, arguing (with loved ones), financial security, difficult choices, acts of desperation, and the complex topics that you mentioned.

Instead, they’re ‘adult’ only insofar as they contain materials that Western culture traditionally considers inappropriate for children: feces, sex, flatulence, genitals, gay stuff, trans stuff, flatulence, bloody violence, feces, inconsequential drug abuse, inconsequential alcoholism, inconsequential rape, incest, STDs, profanity, more flatulence… did I mention bodily fluids? They’re basically taking a page out of Fritz the Cat only making it even worse; rapid‐firing ‘taboo’ subjects at us for cheap laughs, if that makes sense.

Anyway, I’m just ranting and getting slightly off‐topic myself here. (But it does relate to how homogeneous the market is.)

Torrenting is the best way to preserve and share files. Capitalists have no reverence. They destroyed the ancient city of Babylon. They will wipe your favorite show from existence without blinking

What is the best way to go about torrenting for someone who doesn’t have much experience doing it? I don’t really know which torrenting software or VPN I should go for.

Transmission (available on almost any OS) or Ktorrent (for Linux) are the best in my experience. Both open source, automatic (just import torrent files or magnet links and you’re off to the races in most cases), will seed during and for an unlimited amount of time after downloading by default, and free of shady ads and other weird stuff. The former has a headless version and can be run off any dinky single board computer like a raspberry pi zero with attached storage, so it’s easy to set and forget while seeding your favourite torrents, that’s what I do.

On Linux Mint the default client is Transmission. It works well. It’s clean, fast and free and open source software (FOSS). For a VPN I use PIA, private internet access. I’ve never had any complaints with it. Its well integrated with everything and easy to use. Since I’ve been using them for a while I stick with them. But there are probably cheaper or free alternatives to look into.

If you you get caught tormenting they’ll send you a warning letter. If they catch you a few times they’ll put you in a walled garden until you apologize. It’s low risk.

As far as websites go, piratebay is still a go to. 1337X and YTS are also good for media files. They’ve got a much more appealing layout. I’ve never accidentally downloaded malware. All of the sites have icons showing if the files are uploaded by trusted users.

The biggest risk is probably from using an untrustworthy client. Stick with FOSS. Like I said transmission works well. Make sure that the client and vpn are set to keep the PC from going to sleep while in use and the VPN will remain active or kill connectivity upon failure.

        Good luck.

Heads up. I dont know if these articles point it put, but there is a heavy racialized factor at play here as well. Lots of non white workers and creators have been let go and more so then ever, the staff is beginning to look more homogenous due to the layoffs.

Some higher ups have even said that many of these diversity shows have been scrapped so that they dont alienate middle America.

Take that for what it’s worth I suppose.

The Capitalist practice is to fire many people during a recession to gain illusion of accountability to Capitalists even when the mass layoff incurs long term cost when they need to hire back all the former employees after the recession.

As a handful others have pointed out I am pretty sure this is a political move. Either the board themselves is reactionary and want these shows off their network or they are thinking of courting to some American demographic that would be happy to see these shows removed. They have lost more money than saved by removing these shows. Also I watched all of Infinity Train. It was pretty good.
