"Henlo leftists of Reddit, Lemmy is operational! It’s built by u/parentis_shotgun and serves as a better and more inviting space to the online leftist sphere. Reddit’s moderation has decided to silence leftist voices, take away our communities, and force us to associate with neo-liberals. Lemmy provides us with a place where we need not worry about being quarantined, where we don’t have to tiptoe around fascists and neo-liberals. Lemmy is built for communists, by communists. No pigs, fash, liberals, or anti-communists allowed!

Lemmy is our best chance at keeping the online leftist community alive, but that’s only possible if Lemmy gains its own community. So please, come on down and sign up! https://lemmygrad.ml"

It needs to be made less Reddit-centric, a little more open to a slightly broader range of leftist ideologies, and generally be better.

Using suggestions, this is what I’ve got:

"There is a spectre haunting over Reddit, the spectre of anti-left bans. Lemmy is an alternate to Reddit and other link aggregator sites designed with leftism in mind, serving as a better and more inviting space for the online leftist sphere. Reddit’s moderation has decided to silence leftist voices, take away our communities, and force us to associate with Liberalism. Lemmy provides us with a place where we need not temper our rhetoric, or “self-censor” to keep our communities. We maintain an anti-sectarian and inclusive outlook, rare for Reddit alternatives, as well we keep our moderation as transparent as it can be. And unlike other politically minded social media, Lemmy will soon be federated (think email), meaning you’ll be able to follow communities elsewhere, and post to them from a single front page. Aswell, Lemmy is free and open-source software; as Communists we’re opposed to privatized software developed for a profit, and feel that all software should be developed publicly for human needs. As such Lemmy will never have ads, or sell user data in any way.

Please feel free to sign up today, the only way the left is going to get a stable external site for organizing and sharing our views is if Lemmy becomes popular, and Lemmy only becomes popular with membership.

How the hell do you open with such a passionless statement?

Hello leftists of Reddit, Lemmy is an alternate to Reddit and other link aggregator sites designed with leftism in mind,

    Boooo.

Instead, pour some of your revolutionary zest and zeal into the word.

A spectre is haunting Reddit – the spectre of communist sub bans. All the powers of Reddit have entered into a holy alliance to exercise these bans. Spez and Pao, /r/politics and /r/worldnews, Biden-liberals and reactionary fascists.

Where is the in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries?

Two things result from this fact:

    I. Communism is already acknowledged by all Redditors powers to be itself a power.

II. It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views online, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the Spectre of Communism with a manifesto of the party itself.

To this end, Communists of various nationalities have assembled in lemmygrad.ml and sketched the following web address: https://lemmygrad.ml/

I think it needs to sound professional. If we want to be taken as serious revolutionaries we must act professional.

I’m new here but will y’all be implementing some sort of invite-only system (like Gmail did before it opened to the public)? Saying “No fash allowed” doesn’t mean it will stop them from signing up, it will just require more admin work.

Additionally, if you track invite codes, you could find where ‘leaks’ are coming from. E.g. User A invites User B, User B starts posting fashy stuff, User B can be frozen or even banned, User A can be warned, and any other User A invitees (and User A invitees’ invitees, etc etc) can be correlated back to User A if they start breaking the rules.

We have an open ticket for that, but its not a priority. We also have plenty of admins and mods, and if needed we can temporarily close signups until the trolls get bored.

“Built by /u/parentis_shotgun among others” would be better. Or “started by /u/parentis_shotgun”.

Lemmy provides us with a place where we need not worry about being quarantined, where we don’t have to tiptoe around fascists and neo-liberals.

You could say, “or temper our rhetoric”, or “self-censor” here too.

Other than that it looks good comrade :thumbs up:

I think there should be somewhere somehow the main selling point of Lemmy for communists on Reddit nowadays (which I think it is not yet clear [note]): the resilience of an open-source fully-reproducible decentralized network.
Anyway, if one cannot find a better way, this last version is satisfying.

[note] “I am aware of lemmy.ml and everyone should sign up there, but what if they DOS that site, or just ban it’s hoster? There is really no way to challenge capital directly, they have too much power.” (source)

We have been under DDoS already, our current hoster is pretty good at handling that. And moving to a different hoster wouldn’t be hard either (but I doubt that they will kick us off).

        1. awesome profile pic 2) any idea who would have the resources to DoS lemmy? In my few months of posting here, the most coordination i’ve seen is 2 or 3 redditors downvoting the front page once.

Maybe its reddit haha. But I think a ddos would be pretty cheap to buy somewhere on the darknet.

Hey so I’ve been thinking about this for the past few days (I know, it’s old news lol) and I’ve come up with something inspired by the song Der heimliche Aufmarsch (sometimes known as the Socialist World Republic).

    Worker! Don’t you hear it?

    The whispers of anticommunist forces!

We are being chased off online forums so that our yells cannot be heard. We are being driven back in the shadows by the reactionary forces!

Comrade, can’t you hear it! From everywhere, we are assailed with class warfare!

Before it is too late, and before we are divided for good, join us on Lemmygrad ! Lemmy is the new bastion of communism in the digital age. Built by comrades, for comrades.

Worker, comrade! Plant your red banners of labour on Lemmygrad and on every forum! From there shall come the Socialist World Republic!

For federation you can say something like:

“Lemmy will soon be federated (think email), meaning you’ll be able to follow communities elsewhere, and post to them from a single front page.”

      For security:

“Lemmy is free and open source software; as communists we’re opposed to privatized software developed for a profit, and feel that all software should be developed publicly for human needs. As such Lemmy will never have ads, or sell user data in any way.”
