    Belgium alone had something like 80k deaths. That’s 15 times as much as China as a whole. In a country the twice the size of the city of Beijing with a population of 11 mil.

    Edit: for some reason the Belgium death count seems to be adjusted to 33k. I remember very clearly that it was 78k at some point. Still, it would mean it’s almost 7 times higher than China’s. No idea why it was changed with such a huge amount.

      And I remember the scenes on the Dutch media, with rows and rows of hearses and morticians saying they can’t ever keep up with the amounts of death people coming in.

      But at least we could go shopping. Those people can’t anymore, but we can.

    china being a tiny speck compared to the other countries really just shows how much china has taken covid seriously ever since the start of the pandemic.

      Swine flu killed a lot of people, and they had to learn from the experience. Their strategies are now objectively working, and every western criticism has to ignore the main statistic: the number of lives saved.

    China has also gave other countries vaccines, like algeria produces covid vaccines thanks to China and even exports them,the death toll because of covid in algeria is 6k.

    Failure to the west means not sacrificing your own citizens to disease just to keep profit margins up. So in their eyes, yes, China’s COVID policy was a failure. Lol.

    Like, there are more deaths now after everything opened up, but even this is pretty low compared to every other developed country that has similarly opened up. And yes, while even a single death really sucks and should not be downplayed as “collateral damage” or “it is what it is”, China is still doing really well, especially considering how much harder it is to control diseases in high population densities than lower population densities, and China is obviously one of the densest countries in the world.

    I think because places like the US and Canada opened up a while ago (read: over a year or two ago which really isn’t that long but people have goldfish attention spans nowadays) and therefore forgot just how bad it was when it first opened up and people were no longer being protected by quarantine. We had plenty of deaths during that too. But they compare to China’s covid stats now to what the US and Canada is now, you know, over two years after the initial opening up and therefore infections have kind of tapered off as diseases do, and they conclude that China is doing worse than the US and Canada. This is like saying that the jumbo jet on the taxiway is worse than the crop duster that’s already flying because the jumbo jet is travelling more slowly at this particularly instance.
