Just saw this report from a few days ago and in all honesty it doesn’t look good. I hope I am misinterpreting it.

Unless insanely drastic measures are taken in the next 8 years we’ll overshoot the 2°C warming, never mind the 1.5°C.

“But with COP27 looming, only a couple of dozen have done so and the new pledges would shave just 1% off emissions in 2030. Global emissions must fall by almost 50% by that date to keep the 1.5C target alive.”

The linked graph in the article is staggering showing how little our existing pledges are going to put a dent in that number. Our current policies will put us anywhere from 2.6-2.8°C of warming.

Not to be a doomer but I really don’t have hope we will stop the runaway at this point. Global capitalism is dieing too slowly and the strongest socialist nations are too focused on just trying to survive untill the capitalists weaken. I basically just live as best I can and produce as little waste as possible but with the way food packaging is and everything else there’s just very little we can do from an individual standpoint.

I am scared as fuck, can’t lie. I don’t want to be a doomer either but… things just aren’t looking good.

The way I think about it is that it’s no longer a matter of it but when. But I think a lot of people think that’s the end of it. It’s not. It is likely we’ll survive as a species. Our objective has been confused. We don’t fight against climate change because we just never want it to change. We fight against it for survivability. Our job now is to make it as survivable as possible. We still need to promote progressive construction change policy. Where feasible. We need to delay these milestones to allow for technology to progress and for development in many areas of the world. Our primary goal should be to end imperialism. This may seem impossible, but look back at history and almost all revolutions were against impossible seeming odds. And it’s horrifying to be thrown into such circumstances, but it also means our actions mean more than ever before. We cannot give up hope for the liberation of all people, even through climate change. All hope is not lost until all of us are.

The biggest polluters in The Netherlands and Belgium this week outright said they don’t want to be in on the ‘climate hype’. This came after a report that said that almost none of them have done something to combat their pollution.

I think the majority of the people do feel bad about it, but after years of YOUR ECOFOOTPRINT AND HOW TO IMPROVE IT!!! and corporate inaction made them numb.

But climate activism is evolving and it wouldn’t surprise me if a lot of them turn to terrorism soon. And why shouldn’t they? We’re getting killed and doing nothing really.

I could very seriously see the situation devolving into ecoterrorism soon, and no matter your thoughts on it I can see why. Corporations laugh in our faces, governments bend to capital, and only socialist nations seem to be making any effort on the matter.

The only way Earth would sustain its capability to support human life over the next century is if America were utterly annihilated tomorrow. It’d be the one place in world history where domino theory would prove correct-- America falls, and so to does the capitalist order that it cannibalizes itself to enshrine.

As that’s an entirely unrealistic, completely idealistic outcome, I’ve got nothing but contempt in my heart for being born into this era. An era I couldn’t do fuckin shit about. There is nothing in me but piss-off anymore.

I hear you. Why did I have to be born into a system like this? Why did I have to be born/aware of the causes too late?

Yeah it’s not looking good. Will probably be the worst mass extinction event in the history of planet once the pollution goes past the tipping point (if one exists, I am not really sure).

There is a point of irreversible warming due to feedback loops. I’m also fairly certain we are close to it

What with almost all climate change news including “faster than we previously thought”, we might have already crossed that.

Eh idk, im fairly sure life survived through worse things. There’s nothing humans can dish out that would top the oxygen poisoning or the good ol’ meteor. Things wont be fun for any of us though

Life will definitely survive one way or another. The point is however is to try and minimise ecological damage.

I honestly doubt thats feasible at this point. Its would take a miracle for the entire world to suddenly have a change of heart and make a legitimate effort to curb the pollution before ecological situation becomes too dire to ignore. Either way there’s a sort of a doomerist hope that even if everything goes down the shitter, wildlife will persevere and call this plastic-ridden landscape their home and use it to their advantage

some degree of minimisation is always possible. it ain’t much but it’s honest work kind of vibe.
