I like to think that the translator knew exactly what he was doing
Kinda related, but did kennedy really say he was a jelly donut that one time?
Nah, the citizens of Berlin are really called Berliner. Same name as the Jelly Donut tho, because its origin is thought to be from Berlin.
Citizinery in german is always called the cities name + -er. Someone from Washington would be called a Washingtoner, someone from Beijing would be called Beijinger (or Pekinger, the old localization of the name is still in use here too).
It’s the same as people from Hamburg being called Hamburgers. If you say it in the right context there is no confusion really.
“Ich bin ein Hamburger” must be pretty funny to hear tho.
German brand of Soylent Green.
Gotta eat the rich somehow.
awwwwwwwwww
I can’t make fun of JFK for that anymore
Lib take but Trump would’ve said this unironically
“You Poles are a beautiful, beautiful people. I was greeted by some very attractive Polish women on my arrival. I’d make love to this whole country if I could.”
1977 was pretty good year, understandable.
Horrifying.
