“Che Guevara was a complex historic figure. Honouring him commemorates some ideas, while deeply troubling for others.”

exactly who is he deeply troubling? why are people like this? they are offended by the mere image of communism (i don’t mean the image hung on the wall, i mean the image of che guevara being communist).

a Maoist of the worst kind

There’s definitely worse, and he’s not a Maoist. Don’t some Maoists denounce him as a Khrushchevite revisionist or something?

To my understanding, Maoists believe the propaganda that the US used about the Cuban revolution, that they were just puppets of the evil “social imperialist” USSR.

Hoxha thought the Cubans were nationalist revisionists, but I don’t think Che would be seen as a Khrushchevite except in the sense of working with the Soviets

Ask them about fucking Washington next. They are “troubled” by the people who freed slaves much more than they are troubled by those who kept slaves.

Maybe certain medical students who feel pressured to drop out and engage in praxis? That would be an interesting twist.

EDIT: Need to word it to exclude Hakim and other comrades

It’s cool that he puts up a picture of Che, but why is he in a social democrat party, if he likes Che?

It doesn’t matter, he now leads the country and probably wouldn’t have with the communist party. Unlike the democrats, it appears in is possible to shift this party left. Obviously this doesn’t mean they’ll shift to a planned economy or something, but there should be better policies.

You’re right, I hope that he pushes Slovakia and his party to the left, so a revival of the Communist Party is possible

He isn’t the president though, what do you mean he leads the country? He’s the deputy speaker of the parliament.

Fico was in the communist party too though. I think this is basically as far left as they can go while actually participating in the system. I think this is a very positive development overall.

His Marxist credentials are decent, I don’t think he’s a social imperialist. I agree, regardless of if Slovakia goes full red it will be good to further divide Europe.
