somehow these people believe that having an uneducated mass with a few selected record keepers won’t create class division and antagonism

this is literally just the Fascist’s “the most dangerous thing you can do for a man is teach him to read” shit, but through multiple layers of anarchist idealism and armchair ultraleftism.

I feel like explaining, so imma do an explain.

the quote “…is teach him to read” is intended to imply that ‘knowledge is power’ and literacy will make a man less as easy to fool, thus making him more of a ‘free thinker’. This is the basis of a lot of free-market rhetoric about ‘doing your own research’. But, some fascists read the quote and say “oh… then we should make sure certain groups can’t read, and the groups that can read shouldn’t have access to dangerous literature”, this is essentially what the “stoopid tankies, no one has the time to read and telling people to read is ableist” rhetoric is. It’s an attempt at making so-called “counter-culture” groups, in this case Anarchists, less as informed as the groups that can actually scare the bourgeoisie, such as Marxists.

By turning themselves off to theory, powerful literature, and non-western news media, they are willingly blinding themselves to reality and ‘free thought’ as a form of retaliation against Marxism.

So literacy is only for filling out forms is it?

Well, hope you never have to use that emergency exit lever on the train, and the placard that tells you how to pull it. Or a defibrillator and the instructions on how to attach the electrodes!

And god forbid someone needs to design and build those things.

Advocating that reading is bad on a website where literally everyone requires the ability to read.
