Last month there was a Russian woman asking for donations on Twitter so she could move. Apparently she fled Russia cause she got in some legal trouble for protesting against the war. Anyway, a bunch of the comments were pro-Ukraine liberals berating her for being Russian, saying stuff like “oh what about the poor Ukrainians who have to move, huh??”. Being an anti-Russian Russian is… a thankless job to say the least. 🤨
I remember that post, it was an artist I think, and the qrts were disgusting. Trying to be “one of the good ones” seems to always be a bad idea.
When the whole thing just started, I saw a fellow I knew from school posting photos to vkontakte. It was him at some anti-war protest with a “I am ashamed to be Russian” banner. The kicker? He lives in Canada, and has lived there for a decade, if not more.
Imagine if some white dude moved from the US to China for few decades and started going on about how they’re ashamed to be American.

Good question. I’ve not met many (if any at all) self hating Jews or self hating Chinese, for example. I’d imagine those are also quite cringe. Self hating Russians though, I know plenty personally. They do tend to have one thing in common - liberal ideology. Doesn’t matter the age. Young people who have never seen USSR and grew up on a steady diet of western media and propaganda (with a smattering of modern Russian media, which is also subpar). Middle aged people, who grew up in the closing years of the Union and witnessed the trauma of the collapse. Even one whose teenage years begun while Stalin was alive!
And those that don’t go down the self hating route, often veer towards coping nationalism. It’s honestly painful, seeing just how much our people have been broken.
“Self hating Jews” is mostly just used to smear anti-zionist Jews, its just a weaponized term.
The Western Christian will even claim that Karl Marx is a self-hating Jew because Marx deny the existance of god.

Yes, I remember seeing a video of that one conservative Jewish group – can’t remember their name right now – that regularly marches with pro-Palestine demonstrators. The Zionists were out in force, heckling them and calling them “traitors” and “self-hating Jews,” which seemed to me very ironic. Like, you do realize these people are hyper-religious, dress in traditional costume, and put their particular interpretation of the Hebrew scriptures above even having a homeland for themselves? – while you Zionists are for the most most part basically indistinguishable from any other pasty-white New Yorker.
Them being liberals seems to be a very common theme, self-hating Chinese are almost identical to this. They’ll act as if they’re higher grade humans when around fellow diaspora but become obedient punching bags for westerners. The one thing they hate the most is the fact they can’t change their DNA composition to more closely match those that they idolise in the west so much.

So what’s the real story with “Russia kidnapping children” anyway?
Russian army evacuated civilians, including children, into Russian territory. Ukrainian government claimed it as kidnapping children, because orks should’ve given them to Ukraine.
I believe the grayzone did an article debunking that claim, where they actually interviewed the guy who was tasked with coming up with the war crime charge in the first place.

There’s some quote - I can’t remember how it goes, something along the lines of “the job of an anti-imperialist is to protest their own empire, as everyone agrees that the other empire is bad.”
The kidnaps children thing is bullshit, a liberal lie. Russia evacuated civilians who wanted to be evaced including children because the Ukrainian Nazi state persecutes them for their Russian speech, culture, etc.
So they’re liberals and we should not encourage liberal lies and “critiques”. Now if their signs were Marxist I’d feel better. But fuck liberals repeating atrocity propaganda.
Further Russia is not imperialist as they don’t meet Lenin’s criteria. The Ukrainian war is not an imperialist war but a defensive one which Russia fought for years to avoid engaging in and tried desperately, sincerely with a duplicitous, dishonest west who was only interested in buying time to arm and train the Ukrainians to arrive at a peaceful solution. It was engineered by the west. Continued instead of ending in a peace treaty with the first couple months when Russia was near Kiev because Boris Johnson with the full backing of the US went there and threatened them not to back down.
Contrast with any imperialist war by the US in the past century and it’s night and day.
