This is fucking horrifying, but are we surprised? Here is a twitter thread that goes over the refugee issues, as in Ukrainian refugees being fast tracked into other countries while non-white refugees have to fight tooth and nail just to get some space in a camp.
In Germany refugees from places Germany helped destabilize like Syria were being evicted from their government financed accommodations to make room for Ukrainians. We were paying for Ukrainians to take taxis wherever they wanted to go. Many communities and employers requested donations for Ukrainian families in need. Jobs were created for Ukrainian refugees who weren’t qualified for the positions offered. All well and good, we should support all refugees in such generous ways. The story looked very different in 2014 when the majority of Syrian refugees were coming. There was very little such community assistance, the fledgling neo nazi political parties took advantage of the situation in quite the opposite way, and white Germans still view (PoC) refugees as freeloaders.

The province I live in created homes for 12000 Ukrainian refugees out of thin air within two weeks of the war while non white refugees have to sleep in tents in front of refugee centers.
But according to many, race doesn’t matter here. Not that I’m not happy for the Ukrainians, they should get help. But still, so do the rest of the refugees.
My province has a website dedicated to Ukrainian refugees but I don’t remember seeing any of that for Syrian refugees…
Iraqi refugees are dying on the border with Belarus and our government fought tooth and nail against accepting few hundred Syrians that EU proposed, but we now have probably 5+ million Ukrainians staying in Poland without any fuss. For a long time the border with Ukraine was simply open.
Weren’t European countries literally complaining about population issues with Syrian refugees? Like they said there’s no room for them but suddenly there’s space for Ukrainian refugees….
They were saying brown people are ‘genociding’ the white people by replacing them, but of course Ukrainians are white so it’s no problem.
