the most exhausting part about liberals is that all forms of political structure involve some forms of violence, but liberals are the only ones in denial about it

This is the most annoying/frustrating thing about liberals. They think that just repeating a “definition” is the end all be all of the conversation. Call it whatever the fuck you want in any language you want. Placing someone under arrest, handcuffing them, holding them at gunpoint, putting them in a small room for a specific amount of time regardless of any legitimate or illegitimate reasons for doing so is violent.

First day as dictator I would enact the Hitchens Decree ™️ where everyone is polled with a simple yes/no “Is being arrested an inherently violent act?” all the yeses are “pardoned” and all the noes go on a list where any time in the next month they’ll be arrested by police in the most nonviolent way possible, given a night in jail, then re-polled right before release.

Folks. It’s called “re-education”, ok? And we’re gonna do it. We gotta do it. These people, I wouldn’t even call them people really, but these people… they’re sick, folks. Let me tell you. Sick like you wouldn’t believe. We have to help them. We have to, believe me. Believe me. We will help them.

“Excessive force” is such a strange euphemism. Like it implies that there’s some amount of force that is inherently fine as force just so long as it isn’t “excessive.” But conveniently, who gets to define what is “excessive” is also the entity who has a monopoly on violence. So it’s that sort of “we investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong” energy, ya know.

Aware I’m preaching to the choir, but seems like as good a time as any to re-emphasize the point about how liberals tend to believe their thinking can exist outside any predominant model of society, as neutral, when their thinking comes in some significant part from it. And it can take years of active learning just to become aware of those biases, much less try to unlearn them and replace them with something else.

A monopoly on violence is one very big defining feature of any state. Anarchists aren’t wrong about this at least

Oh every time Canada is brought up as a “gotcha” I roll my eyes. This godforsaken country has been involved in pretty much every military conflict around the world. If the US was there then you can guarantee Canada was too. So, yes, Canada does run on political violence; foreign and domestic.

canada sure has an interesting history of purposefully importing ss galicia members and banderites post ww2 to “deal with” canada’s growing “labor organization and communist problem”. I’m sure that was just regular, apolitical violence though…

lol, yeah. the only metric for democracy the crackersphere knows is that a country gains 1 Freedom unit for every 10 PowerPoints it produces. probably has to do with the revolving door between the C-suite and the state.

Yes, yes liberals are clueless about power and the nature of the state, violence etc. Little digression:

    spoiler

What is added to the title here by having that phrase? The title without the phrase is just fine, more to the point in fact.

Why exactly are we as Marxists using Christian phraseology in a Marxist space? Why are we perpetuating and elevating this particular western dogma?

These people are nothing of the sort to us. Even ironically this rubs me the wrong way. I couldn’t care less if you want to post like this among non-political friends but I never would.

I’m nobody’s brother or sister in this nonsense. That’s Cornel West talk, that’s snake-oil talk. That’s preacher talk.

Instead of perpetuating this nonsense why not start our own phraseology. “My fellow prole” for instance for those who share class interests.

Think an atheist who came from an abusive religious household likes seeing this kind of language and normalization? Likes seeing repeating of the kind of language abusers cloaked their verbal venom in? What about Muslims? Jews?

You’re not secularizing the name Christ and phrases invoking it. You’re just injecting religious supremacy of the dominant religion into everyday phrasing, into everyday evaluations of relations between people.

And it’s not something that insular Marxists on lemmy came up with, it’s not a secret hexbear code phrase, it’s used earnestly by Christians and somewhat less earnestly by liberals and others all over social media who saw the Christians using it and for some reason (perhaps even a plot by Christian propaganda groups to be honest) started doing so themselves.

They’re happy to be dominant in the sphere of ideas. They crow among each other about the notion that even people of other religions cry “jesus” or something when they stub their toe and see it as validation that deep down everyone knows their god is king, their dogma is real but they’re just in denial to “sin”.

    “Political violence is bad actually”

Last words of the SPD before getting overrun by the Nazis, circa 1933 (they could’ve prevented this by allying with the KPD)
