So since I play at ssbm tournaments I feel this is important to tell some of you comrades. For anyone unaware Nintendo has canceled the Smash World Tour, which encompasses multiple smash bros tournaments, some huge, some smaller. This is in cooperation with Panda, the two are being assclowns basically. What this means is that most of the Majors and Supermajors (large tournaments) coming up will most likely be canceled. Nintendo has even threatened to arrest people because we have no “license.” Nintendo hates melee and right now were in danger. Never thought i’d be harassed by police at smash events not just protests. Anywho…

      They position themselves as the “family” company but they are as ruthless, corrupt and manipulative as any other big company.

      Remember when the Switch was about to come out and they started “letting” people stream their games without prior permission kind of as a way of apologizing for the shitty Wii U era? Then as soon as they saw it was selling really well they backed down and started claiming content again. Capitalist company moment

      So technically is basically a toxic relationship, they are threatening to. They haven’t yet and I doubt they’ll have enough balls to. Imagining being a pig and thinking “Get out of here you gamers who are competing for five dollars!”

      Well, the whole thing is because they do not want a competitive scene if I remember correctly, they want it to be a casual game for everyday people, so they purposely want to kill it as a sport.

        Yeah which is incredible, because the two circles do not intersect at all. Kids that play Smash literally do not care that some people play competitive Smash and neither do their parents.

        Only problem I can see is with online mode where 12yo get their asses handed to them by a pro player but this is only a problem since the Internet era. Gamecube didn’t exactly have online play and that’s about when they started going after the competitive scene.

          I would also get really cocky and try to dunk on the opponent who’s off the ledge but whiff completely. Then we would both wait for those 5 seconds of shame where DK uses his up B to get up, but its all in vain!

          If I had a nickel for everytime I wasted a DK stock in the name of style…

      My true main was Roy from Melee. I haven’t enjoyed a single smash bros since. Idk why but he was my perfect character. I could never get into Marth. I always saw him as a weaker flimsy version of Roy. Sure, Roy was slower and a little tougher to play with but damn he hit like a truck. Also the newer games adventure modes suck. Just playing a bunch of matches. I like how Melles adventure mode you played through 2d levels from all the different games but as whatever character you wanted. That was dope.

    I just hope this means PM will be allowed at regionals again. This is the perfect opportunity to say fuck it and bring it back. If Nintendo is gonna cancel shit for not having a license might as well go all out

    I’m surprised it took them this long honestly. The funny thing is all these people getting absolutely fucked over will still go buy the next Smash game after standing in line for 10 hours around a GameStop or something. Lol.

    I am a Ganondorf main and I’m pretty much fine with the tournament cancellations anyways because they don’t give a living wage unless you take a sponsorship or place top 1 almost every time.

      Thats not a good mindset to have in my opinion. I go to my local weeklies not to get money, but to compete and have a good time. I think becoming a top player would be fun someday, but im fine going 0-2 if it means I tried and was having fun. I like sticking around for the rest too. The Melee scene has built itself on community, its very cool when that community base is able to give large prizes or support their top players with money, but thats not the point y’know? Anyway cool to see a ganondorf.

        The point is people shouldn’t have to worry about taking top spots in tournaments or take sponsorships to live. They should be able to make a living on doing what they love to do.
