In the midst of European nation’s unrest over the energy crisis, if Russia resumes it’s supply, wouldn’t that be hypocritical and, more concerning, reverse the progress the world has made towards the destruction of this wretched hegemony?
There would be nothing hypocritical from the russian side, their offer afaik still stands, entire issue has been solely unilateral move by EU.
Agreed, I think I meant hypocritical in the sense of how Russia is pushing for a more multipolar world and less reliance on the west.
It is what Russia tried to do for years. Removing EU from the US sphere of interest (more like complete vassalization by now) would make the world much less unipolar. Also that was formulated by the end of 90’s, before the meteoric rise of China - back then the EU-Russia closing was the most promising option for ending the USA domination - and USA also know it, they went so far to sabotage this prosepect that instead they caused Russia-China closing.
Russia hasn’t stopped, they are just asking for payment in Rubles. This is driving dedollarization and multipolarity.
The EU has to pay Rubles for cheaper gas, or dollars for expensive gas. Europe so far has tried to not buy from Russia, but it can only hold out so long.
The US is doing two things, first it is souring the relationship between Europe and Russia, which cuts off Eurasia from being a connected system of economies. Second, the US is killing its manufacturing rivals, specifically Germany, by forcing their industries to pay more money for gas, whether from Russia or an over seas petrodollar source, either way German industry is screwed.

Honestly, as a German it is revulsing to see how our government let’s our people suffer to please the US. But since there is basically no alternative, even under different ruling parties we can’t do anything about it anyways. If the situation gets worse though, people will start protesting and maybe then we can achieve something.

have either been voted out or kicked out.Russia made the mistake that EU officials at the top would at some point start to realize the direction the world going into and their position in this new direction.
German politicians would rather let their people freeze to death than buy gas from russia again. At the same time gas companies can raise the prices as they please and milk the whole population. Still can’t understand why no big protest appear in germany and people just accept it.
Pretty sure it’s the Europeans that are refusing to buy Russian Oil/Natgas. If Russia uses energy as a weapon other countries like China and India might become concerned and start to diversify from them.
How would Russia denying supply after sanctions be considered using energy as a weapon?
Would you do business with a country that systematically cuts off supply to other countries when relations turn sour?
Would you do business with a country that refuses to pay for resources you are selling them? With priority?
That’s besides the point. Most countries in the world don’t choose to do business with the West. They are forced to, and in disadvantageous conditions. Russia is not imperialist, so it must behave in a more responsible and restrained manner.
