Dang shame. Can’t say I like living in the human anthill of my apartment block overmuch
I think it’s because of how apartments are constructed (at least in capitalist countries). With sound-proof walls and an easy way to get to the ground floor, apartment blocks could be much more comfortable
My building was constructed in the late Soviet Union. Before perestroika if I’m not mistaken. Although I do agree that with proper care and maintenance it could be comfortable.
You may be underestimating how few services exist within American suburbs. It’s likely you don’t have to travel far to get groceries and medicine within your neighborhood, while in the US it’s not uncommon to drive over 30 minutes to find these things, and most suburbs don’t have public transportation, at all.

That kind of depends. Basic stuff I can get within a ten minute walk, although properly stacking is still best done with a car and a 20-30 minute drive.
I can’t overstate enough the importance of thermal and soundproofing of apartment buildings.
There are other things. Elevator broke down, because some dumb kids were jumping in it? Good luck hauling your groceries to the 10th floor. Upstairs neighbour cheaped out on pipes? Now you and everyone else are knee deep in water and need repairs. The list goes on.
I don’t see these problems being properly solve-able under for-profit mode we are forced to live in.

Instead you get a P-30, with the whole space around clogged with cars, because it was not designed for the absurdly car-centric lifestyle we have nowadays.
Apartment buildings, like great many other things, requires socialist system to be utilized properly, I would say.
