This is just another step in a spiral of constant escalation of the war, which doesn’t bode well for regional and global stability.
There was a missed opportunity for de-escalation after Russia retreated from Kiev, Chernihiv and Sumy Oblasts. However Ukraine’s government (at the behest of its US handlers) decided to further provoke Russia with accusations of war crimes instead. This is a recurring occurrence in conflicts that the US wants to perpetuate.
Although there already was some toying with the idea of further balkanizing Ukraine, after the Bucha provocation public opinion in Russia has become extremely unfavorable to retreating from any gained territory, and now it seems the project of severing Novorossiya from Ukraine has entire official backing. But will it stop there? I doubt hostility between Russia and Ukraine/NATO will simmer down any time soon… In fact there is already talk of Poland sending a force into Ukraine, while the UK is increasing its footprint with more instructors.
Well if NATO’s goal is indeed to try and get Russian government into “Afghanistan 2.0” with the subsequent bankruptcy, then a further dragging of the war (and indeed it spreading elsewhere) is very much in their interest. Heck, I remember western media saying “MOLDOVA IS NEXT ON PUTIN’S PLAN OF GENOCIDE AND DOMINATION!!!111!” aroundearly March. They’ve been getting ready. Should this come to pass, the media and the politicians will point and scream “SEE?! WE TOLDYOUSO!”
It has become painfully clear what will happen to civilians in areas occupied by Russia if Russia refreats. This cannot be allowed. I believe Russia will not let go anymore of any territory it occupies from now on. Not until the Nazi regime in Kiev is toppled. The Russians have learned their lesson, they realized what they are dealing with.
I personally believe this is just a pretext to put pressure on the neolib US puppet government of Moldova so they dont join NATO or the EU. While the moldovan government is hostile to prorussians in transnistria and opposes russian being a coofficial language, it still recognizes it as a minority language. The russophobia in Moldova is nowhere like in Ukraine or the Baltic States, so i think calling it oppression is exaggerated. Im not an expert though.
I just assumed Transnistria is already pro-Russia/neutral and can hold on their own, is it not the case?
I think the statement is about Moldova oppressing Transnistria, not Transnistria oppressing russians.
I kinda hope they don’t, but am would be fine if they did, can’t trust ukraine to treat them well, as they are on the border. But there is the deal of having to deal with the rest of Ukraine, which would be very annoying, and the closeness to other european countries may provoke a response from NATO.
Exactly what I make of the whole situation, bourgeoisie will cynically use ideals to justify expansion
well I for one am fine with liberation of a state that is technically the soviet union
Soviet Union is no more
Transnistria is a breakaway state that claims to be it, so I’m chill with it.
I’ve never heard about Transnistria being like Soviet Union, but I’ve read about it being nearly entirely controlled by a single corporate group named Sheriff. Like, they made the government invent a special status of “special importer” so Sheriff gets to pay almost no taxes and excises on imported goods and also don’t have to do any certifications on them. Or that they manipulated who gets to participate in the latest parliament elections including jailing an ex-deputy from a communist party so the Obnovlenie (“Renewal”) party financed by Sheriff got not just majority, but nearly all seats.
