I’ve never heard about Transnistria being like Soviet Union, but I’ve read about it being nearly entirely controlled by a single corporate group named Sheriff. Like, they made the government invent a special status of “special importer” so Sheriff gets to pay almost no taxes and excises on imported goods and also don’t have to do any certifications on them. Or that they manipulated who gets to participate in the latest parliament elections including jailing an ex-deputy from a communist party so the Obnovlenie (“Renewal”) party financed by Sheriff got not just majority, but nearly all seats.
