ah yes, vladimir “if you want the ussr back you don’t have a brain, but if you didn’t like the ussr you don’t have a heart” putin is sovietizing russia.

western news articles are pure propaganda. it’s astonishing that people just gobble it up without questioning anything.

also this is the first time someone saying people fled the ussr during the fucking brezhnevite era. usually they denigrate stalin. why did they pick brezhnev specifically over anyone else? because “it’s all the same regardless of the general secretary”?

Don’t quote me on this, but I think that’s when USSR started to allow emigration to Israel

Look at the picture of the guy writing this article, look at those wimpy little eyebrows. No wonder he fled.

Man, America is really gonna go all the way with trying to associate communism with a national/ethnic identity, huh?

      as if it ever stopped.

the amount of times i’ve seen people conflate russia with communism+soviet union and vice versa despite the butchering of the ussr and modern day russia being anything but communist is just mindblowing and enraging.

It’s so effective that the USSR is one of the først things that comes to mind when I think of communism

I looked up the Simpsons “USSR comes back” clip on YouTube the other day. It was full of comments like “wow the Simpsons really called it!”

      It boggles my mind.

since the war started, people are invoking the ghost of soviet union, that must be stopped at all costs, and guess who tried to wipe out it in the past…

It’s been a talking point since long before the Ukraine war. If we go by media (which is used to shape perception), then it goes back to 2001 at least. The plot of Ghost Recon game featured “Russia trying to recreate the Soviet empire”. Check for yourself if you don’t believe me

What a perfect picture. Because at first it looks like the guy is holding up a knife to Stalin, which would support the story’s anti-communism. Then you zoom in and realise he’s holding flowers, which is what I’d expect from anyone who knows history.

They aren’t. If you’re referring to certain fifth columnists pretending to be Marxists who were arrested for endorsing terrorist acts, they aren’t communists any more than the likes of Zizek are.

yeah, reinforcing what u said, there are right wing people that claim soviet union on russia, because at that time the country was united, strong and feared by the west

I believe some were arrested, but for draft dodging, not for their communist views.
