Just got back into Rimworld.
If this is true then it most likely happened before the cultural revolution (although there were areas that has less centralized control where land reform and redistribution did not occur after the 1950s).
The same happened to my family (except with a theatre instead of a cinema). You know what my great grandparents did? They happily handed over their property because they saw that the CPC were actually working to help the country, especially the poorest of the poor. My great-grandfather didn’t even get to work in that theatre. He became a lowly teamster in his old age. Instead of resenting the CPC they continued on with their lives and helped the poor whenever they could, oftentimes with CPC community organizations. They sent their only son hundreds of km away to study agriculture because that seemed like what the country needed most at the time. To be fair my great-grandparents had the privilege of being educated enough to understand what the CPC was trying to achieve.
Fair enough
Speaking as a Chinese person…one thing I really find off about online leftist culture is the self hatred, especially towards their own ethnicity. I understand that Anglos are the source of a lot of the world’s imperalism so a joke here and there is fine but it gets too much after a while. Especially because it reminds me of the self hatred I see so often in anti-CPC Chinese liberals.
Pretty sure it is Cui Jian. The father of Chinese rock.
You think there might be more pesticides and herbicides on some random dandelion than the food that you buy from a grocery store?
I’m liking the nuance I’m seeing in this thread. Reddit is often extremely pro-nuclear to the point where any nuanced opinion is seen as anti-nuclear.
I know he’s made a 1hr+ video on the subject but have never watched it. Can anyone provide a quick summary on his views regarding the Uyghurs? From the few videos I have seen it seems like he’s already a full on socialist.
Socialist East Asian Union.
It’s not Musk that is specifically mistreating and exploiting Tesla workers, it’s a huge problem in most industries. This is something that China is hopefully working to change - see the legislation to combat 996 last year.
Kenji Lopez Alt, another chef hates Ramsay because of his exploitative labour practices.
Lots of young ones on this site eh?
Not sure I have a moment, but I am pretty proud of my side hustle. I helped start and currently run a small grassroots organization in Malawi where we implement sustainable development projects to help locals. Things like building/repairing infrastructure to provide clean drinking water, planting trees to prevent erosion/improve the local ecosystem, etc.
Not really a side hustle I guess since I end up having to put a lot of my personal money towards it with no hope of getting any of that back.
Alright, great comment. I stand corrected. In my mind it will still always be a transliteration difference because I was exposed to the Chinese term first, but I think you’re onto something about how Westerners interpret ‘Chinese’ vs ‘of China’. I will shift to using CPC from now on.
This makes me think, are propagandized western liberals more racist or more afraid of commies?
CPC vs CCP is not a transliteration difference
Literally the opposite. CPC vs CCP is a transliteration difference (中国共产党 - 中国=China/Chinese 共产=communist 党=party). KMT is based on the old method of romanization - wade-giles. GMD is derived from modern day pinyin, which is what the CCP helped create and currently uses. If I am speaking Chinese I will of course use 国民党 (GMD),but everyone and their mom knows KMT in the English speaking world so I use KMT when referring to the nationalists when talking to westerners.
However, it looks like you guys are right, CPC is the official english acronym. However, again, as a Chinese person…who cares? You’re telling me that correcting this acronym use will change or affect…anything?
I use CCP all the time, who cares? Explain to me how this is not virtue signalling.
I also use KMT to refer to the nationalist instead of GMD because that is what is commonly used. Is it really such a big deal?
Edit: I also want to add that I am Chinese.
Alright, lots of downvotes. Anyone care to explain why? In Chinese the party is called 中国共产党。中国=China/Chinese 共产=communist 党=party.
TIL. That applies to me. I can pass on as fluent in basic conversation but I am far from being able to sound eloquent.
How about yourself?
Trump’s nickname in Chinese is Chuan Jianguo (川建国). Jianguo is a semi-common patriotic first name meaning ‘build/develop the nation’. Chinese people call him that because he has been vital in the fall of the US (and therefore development/rise of China).
