    Frustrated.

I play games from time to time and one of my newest favorites is “Freeman : Guerrilla Warfare”, which takes place in a fabled post-soviet society during a tumultuous time. It’s essentially Mount & Blade with guns. It’s a fun game and I can pretend I am fighting in a Communist revolution.

Anyways, someone on the “discussion board” mention how cool it would be to have a Rhodesia mod and were not very fond of communists, let’s say. I pointed out that Rhodesia has been used as a dog whistle for racists, without implying that the poster themselves were racist and provided information (news articles and the like) to educate people.

O boy. That was a mistake. The amount of people who “came at me” essentially saying that there are “two sides to every story” (this story being racism) was absurd. It’s 2020 and making the claim that “racism is bad” is a hot take for… more people (are gamers people?, lol) than I thought.

I also refuted the common lie that Zimbabwe, as well as all of Africa is a “poor country” and that “Africans don’t like prosperous, crime-free nations” (a REAL quote BTW). Now everyday I come home from work I have 2 to 8 responses to my messages, most claiming that I am just there to antagonize people and a few there just to be trolls and/or racist.

I guess my biggest “mistake” was citing Lenin to explain Imperialism. That really pissed some people off, lol.

So just so we are clear. According to gamers -

Lenin = Evil. I don’t need to hear anything about this evil evil man!

Racism = Hey, let’s talk about it. FREE SPEECH! It’s just a joke man!

(To be fair, most didn’t react negatively to Lenin, but a few flipped out over it.)

I actually laughed when I read you cited Lenin lol

Don’t be frustrated, comrade, just talk your heart out and if people misinterpret you, just leave them poisoned at their own ignorance.

Thanks comrade. I knew the gamer community was bad, but I was surprised to the sheer amount of attempts to rationalize racism, because “equality”, while at the same time claiming that Lenin, Marx, and Communism is outright “evil” and there is no merit in discussing it.

How can you “give racism a platform” while silencing those who liberate the enslaved? I mean WE know why, but still this selective close-mindedness (arrogant ignorance) is shocking!

I was thinking about Xi Jinping. He was born in 1953, and by 2050, the last expected year of the development of Chinese Socialism, he would be 97 years old. I was wondering what could happen to this long-term plan if he doesn’t live that long

Xi is not an all-powerful dictator, he is just implementing the decisions of the Chinese people. He will surely retire before that date, and China surely has enough qualified people to take his position after that.

I’m sure they’ll carry on plans. Or at least I really hope so.

“Democratic values”, “freedom” is so totally meaningless that I now know why Marx felt the need to rip into this weak phrenology in critique of the gotha programme.

We know just what kind of democracy the EU forces upon its members.

I can only speak for myself, but I personally think the whole free speech argument is pointless, and we should be asking whose speech is protected. The US for example protects reactionary speech, and outlaws pro worker speech, and if you say anything against Capitalism, you get deplatformed, fired, put on a watchlist, and in the case of many groups like the Panthers, systematically hunted down and killed.

China has the opposite, they protect pro-worker speech and don’t allow pro-capitalist speech. The only lack of free speech I can think of, is that they ban US surveillance capitalist platforms like Facebook and Twitter, which any good socialist nation should do if they don’t want to capitulate to capitalist media. That the US is still trying color revolutions in places like HK is proof that this is good strategy.

How do communists feel about free speech? Are they okay with suppression of free speech in places like China?

I gotcha. Its certainly a thing with a lot of nuance, and for the most part its easy to distinguish between reactionary speech and other speech. Obvi we’re going to ban anyone saying “kill the gays” or transphobes and the like. Well welcome aboard!

I’m a bit late, but a small reminder that China’s citizens still have access to social media that goes beyond Chinese borders, Weibo for instance. And that Anti-HK protest voices have to take to websites like pornhub to share the vile things protesters are doing because Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Tumblr have been suppressing that in favour reddit’s favourite “winnie the poo man bad, hk democracy now!” bullshit.
