This US LASER Aircraft Carrier Is Ready To Beat China The Gerald Ford is 1,105 feet long compared to the Nimitz's 1,092. The waterline width, is almost the same, 134 feet. The displacement is the same as the ton - 98425 tons for both ships. However, if you look closely, you will notice that the silhouettes of the ships are somewhat different. The Gerald Ford's deckhouse is located closer to the stern and the bridge is not visible. It is located on the lower deck to reduce the size of the superstructure. The superstructure is located over the sideline. This made the deck more spacious. But that's not why the CVN-78 costs twice as much as any other aircraft carrier! No, of course, it isn't. It's all about the stuffing.

    Ya know, I’ve been hearing about these magical laser defences for a decade at least. Yet to see them in action.

    Remember when Zumwalt was touted as the pinnacle of maritime technology and was gonna have lasers and railguns? I remember.

    I think it is funny that even if these LASER’s do even work at 200 ft on a clear day without fog, it does not negate the kinetic energy of a hyper sonic missile hitting the hull of the boat. Also if the US does does develop lasers, wouldn’t it be trivial to put reflective coating on the missiles? Correct me if I am wrong. This seems like military wasting money to me.

      The purpose of the military has been to funnel money to the contractors for decades now. We got to a point where we can harass and terrorize small, imperialized nations on a whim. Everything beyond that has just been to keep the cash flowing into the ever increasing budget. Then funneled to the oligarchy.
