Eh, for how fascistic the US is, they used the fasces for decades if not close to a hundred years before Mussolini ever got the idea, because it’s a classic Roman symbol with a good meaning that was sadly subverted and twisted by fascists.

As always, fascists are only good at stealing symbolism

A coin from the 1849 roman republic, 70 years older than fascism.

Yet another fascism-y thing the US did before the people who call themselves fascist.

Yeah it’s wild, almost as if the symbol had a different meaning before it got co-opted by an authoritarian populist European dictator…must just be an isolated coincidence, I mean it would be crazy if that happened twice lol

It didn’t have a different meaning, this is not like the swastika which is an Asian symbol that was co-opted, this is a European symbol that always stood for one of the core ideals of fascism, even before fascism coalesced as an ideology. Stop trying to make false analogies or excuse the US’s clear proto-fascist ideological underpinnings. It is no coincidence that the Nazis openly admitted to taking inspiration from the US in their genocidal, expansionist settler-colonialism.
