Why are Israelis even playing in EuroBasket championship when they’re in Asia.

Either kick them out of the league or rename it WhiteBasket championship.

because they aren’t allowed to play in the asian leagues. Same with other sports. Which says a great deal about what an authentic nation state they are. Gotta love asia letting palestine play but not israel.

Protesting genocide is pretty anti semitic, though. Somebody should probably bomb Ireland about this.

It sucks that they lost, because now the zionists take that as a victory.

They won in all of our hearts and that’s what mattered. (Though it would have been nice if they’d won, the gesture is great and the more teams do it the more the zionists feel the pressure of being part of a fascist settler genocidal terror state regardless of how many wins they rack up)

I heard a lot of the starters didn’t play out of principle and they had to play otherwise they would be fined heavily.

Personally I think it would have been worth it. Either don’t play at all or demolish the Zionists with your best players and then spit them in the face afterwards.

Lmao A guy around here claimed Irish heritage and I was like “oh yeah I love listening to ‘come out ye black and tans’ and ‘my little armalite’” and said something vaguely implying that the british were bad and he got all quiet

I barely think that I might have some Irish ancestry and I made sure to know how they really fuckin felt about their lot in life

Kinda boggled my mind that he wouldn’t do the same

This is being taken very differently in Ireland. Many think that they shamed themselves for playing the match at all. This is seen as a huge PR coup for Israel. The basketball leadership openly called for a boycott of Russian basketball matches.

You do raise a good point. I suppose I was so taken by something that in the US would seem unthinkable.

They would have been fined had they refused to play the game and it’s not like Women’s basketball is a huge thing, especially not in Ireland, it could have destroyed the club.

Not only that but they might have been banned for 5 years. Basketball has gotten huge in Ireland in the past couple of decades. I don’t see this justifying their decision. They still should have boycotted it, it’s an actual genocide. They ended up losing and the match was used as PR for Israel. They were used.

They were certainly used and the decision to boycott Israel should have come from the federation that organized the match. Once again we see how good and bad countries are decided on purely capitalist reasons by the bourgeoisie.

However, I don’t think the victory did much for Israel’s PR. Maybe inside Israel itself, but everyone still stands with the Irish team for their decision not to meet the opposite team face to face.
