By my understanding, maternity leave in China and maternity leave in Japan are about equal.

By my understanding, maternity leave in China and maternity leave in Japan are about equal.

It varies by province, but maternity Ieave is China is typically about 22 weeks long to Japan’s 8 to 14 weeks. Chinese parents also retain their full wage during the leave, while it caps out at 2/3 pay in Japan.

Last I heard something like half of Japan’s 30 year olds are still virgins

So yeah, they’re apparently just making babies like crazy over there

One half is seeking enlightment through transcending earthly pleasures. The other half are working overtime to pick up the slack.

I am now ready to write for Foreign Policy magazine.

Any mainstream western thinkpiece about how China should fix its problems is just a futile attempt to persuade Chinese politicians to destroy their own country.

Aa yes Japan, we are famous for not having any demographic issues or problems with childcare. Definitely the example that should be used as a model.

The one thing I will say that is usually pretty good is that most companies offer much more maternity than the minimum. Most of my friends who had children had around a year, albeit at reduced pay. So that much is admittedly not too bad, though a lot of couples living in Tokyo struggle to make ends meet even when they are DINK. The reduced pay can actually be a big problem.

On the other hand, paternity leave, while offered, is virtually unheard of to actually take. The only people who ever take it are foreigners, I don’t know a single new father that took any time off. I am childfree so will dodge having to deal with that bullte.

A decent maternity leave doesn’t balance out our 300 other problems when it comes to issues stopping people from having children.

I seem to remember that when I was a kid, liberals were actually praising China as representing the future of “responsible parenting.”

I want to know who said that support to working mother is bad. The Liberals now support mother who work on both childcare and paid work unless thay are the socially conservative liberals like Donal Trump who seek to make women to engage in uncontrolled reproduction by restricting the importance, status, and power of women to childcare. If the Communist Party of China successfully stop women from uncontrolled childbirth and abolish the Chinese tradition to produce many children, then China must had eliminated sexism where women could only gain status through prostitution and childcare. The reason why women in traditional patriachy give birth to many children in the first place is that child rearing is the only method to gain status, not because there are government benefits for mothers that seek formal employment.

That’s absolutely what they want. If the US ruling class doesn’t even care about everyday Americans, they’re certainly not going to have any regard for the welfare of the Chinese people. Adam Smith, of all people, said that merchants tend to be the least patriotic of all classes; now we’re seeing that they’re also the most anti-human.

America wanted China to be the west’s source of cheap manufacturing forever. Fortunately, the CPC outmanuevered the Washington, and the US ruling class is absolutely losing their minds as a result. The new plan is to drive China back down to the level it was at in the 90s, so that it can once again be “world’s factory” and subservient to western capital.
