What humiliation? People like Nuland and Blinken will just move onto the next thing and fail upwards from there. These people flourish in the system.
Wonder what nation will suffer as a plaything for these monsters next.
Also it’s not really humiliation, the US accomplished their primary goal in the conflict, to fully turn most of Western Europe into US vassal states. The US blew up nordstream and the Europeans can’t do anything about it. Ukraine is just a pawn in the game that is the geopolitical battle against Russia and China. And the first step of that was to kill any hopes of European sovereignty.
European sovereignty started dying the day it needed US life support for its imperialism and colonialism. I.e. France in Vietnam and UK during the Suez crises. But yes, Nordstream is just another major event in European Sovereignty dying.
It probably started much earlier when the Europeans started fighting each other over colonies in WWI, but this may be a stretch.
European sovereignty could have been maintained within the European continent…
But a combination of Brexit, the loss of cheap energy, and some completely inane decisions by European leadership have brought us to where we are: Europe entirely dependent on one global power for energy and on the other for defence.
Reminds me of one of the first episodes of citations needed I ever listened to: The Always Stumbling US Empire
That ep is great. It dispels so many myths.
Perhaps the wording is intentional to stir a reaction in the reader. “Our great nation has been humiliated! Will you, brave patriot, stand and allow it?!!”
Ah yeah, I think you are right actually.
How do these people think ? Putin’s land grab ? We can’t let Russia do this ? As if someone has made these white westerners a moral police of this world . When did we elect you fascists for defending Ukraine ?
That is the narrative taught to westerners. That the west is the “world police” and stops “bad guys” around the world. It’s just white man’s burden combined with cop worship.
How long before the “Ukrainians deserved it…” stories.
Breaking news, we discovered that there were fascists hiding amongst all the freedom loving Ukrainians, so we decided to withdraw all support. NATO will never stand with fascists (except everytime we do), so couldn’t in good conscience continue to support them.
Who could have seen it coming!? No, don’t raise your hand. We were totally blindsided by the revelation.
Doubt it. Why would this happen?
Kinda had those vibes throughout most of the US war in Afghanistan and in Iraq when stories would come out that the local militias, police, government military units would evaporate at the first sign of fighting (not judging, they didn’t need to be fighting their own people for a war the USA was prosecuting in their home country) and there would be a strain of “fuck em, if they don’t wanna fight for their own country, neither should we” that could sometimes be picked out of the noise.
Hmmm good point, I didn’t think of this. Although arguably there’s a difference - in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was yanks themselves pretending to be “bringers of democracy”. So their resentment follows as the situation on the ground begins to clash with the imaginary pictures of propaganda.
In Ukraine, they (officially) don’t have boots on the ground. I could see the resentment stem from “we gave them every Wunderwaffe we had, and they still lost reeee!”, but surely this will be blamed on “bloodthirsty, savage invaders”?
I think its more the same as Americans aren’t a part of their military. So after the initial rush of the invasions and the occupation set in with no exit plan the conversations about the “cost” of the occupation in lives and treasure could be heard.
General economic sentiment in the USA for the average person is pretty grim, seeing a headline about how 113 Billion Dollars is being spent on the War in Ukraine and wondering why some of that money couldn’t be sent “my” way, is a very real thing. Then seeing the headlines about the all the fancy million dollar whizz-bang toys getting blasted followed by ANOTHER headline about billions being spent on Ukraine can’t make anybody happy.

I’d bet more on us Yanks, as a people, just not caring enough to remain emotionally engaged in this conflict. It won’t matter if its Ukranian incompetence or the bloodthirsty invaders, none of us have any reason to get worked up over what’s going on over there.
why some of that money couldn’t be sent “my” way
Gonna agree wholeheartedly with you on this. Already seeing this sentiment arise, even in lib central like Reddit
