It has been a colony since the Maidan putsch in 2014, and as he also said - there is no middle ground between being sovereign and being a colony. This is absolutely true of the EU as a whole and most of its individual member states, of NATO, of the UK, etc. None of these countries are capable of independent action, they just serve as vectors for the US empire.
