I’ve been meaning to ask this question: What news sites, blogs, and journalists do you follow for news and current events?

Maybe we’ll set up a repository somewhere for people to reference, that can be updated over time as people and publications become more or less relevant/reliable.

I will second Geopolitical Economy Report (formerly Multipolarista,) especially the YouTube channel, which I think is also available as a podcast. Also First Thought and Breakthrough News, and their YouTube channel. These are great for current events, First Thought as a quick update on a lot of events, Geopolitical Economy Report and Breakthrough News for deeper analysis of specific stories.

For news related specifically to China I use the Dongsheng News Collective, YouTube channel here, as well as Friends of Socialist China.

Reading the Grayzone 3/4 years ago was instrumental in breaking my orientalist and anti-communist thinking. I know Max Blumenthal has gone a little sideways politically since then, though, which makes me trust it a little less.

Mr. Norton is obviously much more principled, and geopolitical economy/Multipolarista are absolutely incredible sources.

If I am not mistaken, ProleWiki has a page on this but I can’t seem to find it.

It may be useful to add all the websites that isn’t on there yet. I’ve been meaning to create an account but haven’t got round to it yet.

Most of the ones I follow have already been named, so here’s some non-English ones

    Esquerda.net, in Portuguese

    Junge Welt, in German

TeleSur, in both Spanish and English

    Al-Mayadeen, in Arabic

    Qudsn.co, in Arabic

Please replace www.esquerda.net with www.abrilabril.pt. The first is run by the Left Block which is akin to SYRIZA. They have made articles in the past claiming that Cuba isn’t truly socialist and vehemently defend that China is a dictatorship. They also cowered in the Ukraine war and decided to adopt the NATO narrative. abrilabril.pt is Marxist-Leninist.

I don’t read much current news, but here goes some sources I’ve found reliable for the past month or so.

Prensa Latina is a Cuban government press agency that has developed a lot in recent years, and is very good for reporting on Actual Americans (read: not only Unitedstadians). They have Spanish, Brazilian, English, Russian, Arabic and Italian.

Haïti Liberté is another Caribbean leftist newspaper but this time Haitian. They have some stuff in English, but it’s mostly French and some Creole. Obviously they focus mostly on Haiti from an anti-imperialist perspective, but that also often extends to the rest of the Caribe.

But also, if you’re trying to get news from some particular industry or location, it’s always useful to go straight for the reporting that is meant for the professionals of that area rather than the general public. So if you’re into hollywood, touching grass deadline.com is often useful, and if you’re a gamer, get some help gamedeveloper.com (old gamasutra) usually has more in-depth reporting. Usually the more in-depth reporting comes out from the specialist newspaper rather than some multinational outlet.

I recommend naked capitalism and wall street on parade for finance and economic news which is critical of bourgeois capitalism.

    https://www.mazdoorbigul.net/

It’s in Hindi language from India. This is what introduced me to an alternate and only honest form of politics that promises to work for millions and millions of people except for the very few that other form of politics is actually for.

Please consider adding it to your list for easy visibility to Indian lurkers.

Maybe it would be best to write the organization/affiliation/standpoint (or if applicable the specific ideology) next to the sites. Would be good to know when reading the articles to have some context.

I think this is a good idea. I don’t think I’m the right person to gather that data since much of these are new to me too 😅. If people want to reply to this comment with that info for the ones they know I’ll update the post.

I can start a bit: workers.org is affiliated with the Workers World Party

And for the suggested German ones: “junge Welt” is ranging from far left social democracy to classic ML.

demvolkedienen.org seems to be some kind of Maoist (no surprise with that name)

Indymedia is open to everyone so every part of leftism is represented

        taz is social democratic/left liberalism

neues Deutschland is left wing social democrats

I’d argue that it is fine to include the social democratic sites. If you’re aware of their position you can still get the necessary information out of their articles and they usually have a higher budget than far left ones.

Also I can recommend to read a serious bourgeois newspaper (not pure propaganda rags like the Sun) to every comrade. The bourgeoisie isn’t stupid so they have papers that tell the truth on many things. Their analysis and “solutions” are obviously different but the information is still valuable. Also it’s good to know how the bourgeoisie judges the situation. Know your enemy.

I wouldn’t call the Taz leftist. They’re pretty liberal, and under the delusion of being leftist - kind of like most of the German left lol.
ND is kind if debatable too, I’d say. Especially from an ML point of view.

There’s also Unsere Zeit, which is the DKP’s newspaper. It’s usually pretty based. My absolute favourites are definitely Junge Welt and Kommunistische Arbeiterzeitung.
