    wait, did they legitimately just use wartime casualties as a justification for painting Mussolini as a worse figure? There are loads of better things to look at, predominately his reign in Italy and how he handled dissenting opinions, or how absolutely useless he was as a leader.

    If we’re to use wartime casualties as a beacon for a person’s “badness”, then literally every wartime leader is practically just Hitler - regardless of what they believed in. You could argue with this logic that Lincoln was worse than Hitler, because Lincoln’s war was one of the bloodiest in history.

      Stalin’s mentioned because Jacobin represents the Anti-Communist Left in the west. They don’t care what the war was about, or that Stalin’s a propagandized figure in western media, they just wanna convince their readers that Marxism-Leninism is on par with Nazism or any other vile ideology.
