Amsterdammer here. I was not present in the fighting but local sources have shared what happened.
In short, the Israeli hooligans including some off-duty IOF soldiers were attacking locals and stealing Palestinian flags from peoples windows. Also chanting about death to Arabs and a bunch of other racist shit.
Finally the local activists and mixed youth (including many many non-left) had enough and started taking them on physically because they were sick of the disrespect.
The cops arrest and beat these locals while protecting the Israelis. Meanwhile you’ve all seen the propaganda crying anti-semitism.
They literally brought it on themselves. Fuck them.
The Jerusalem post reported that Mossad agents were attending the match a few days ago. I believe they intentionally provoked a reaction from the local Arab communities so that the Israeli media could report “look you’re not safe outside of Israel” and curb the massive migration of Israelis leaving Israel since Oct last year.
Yup. The first day they arrived, the night before the match, they went around ripping Palestine flags from people’s windows.
Apparently some Moroccans threw some of them into the river and forced them to say free Palestine

i think that it’s a manifestation of the ruling class’ privilege to do things like this outside their imperial core, secure in the knowledge that they would never face the same kind of recrimination that would cause problems for someone like me despite also being an american.

Yeah, and they probably weren’t even arrested, but escorted back to their hotel. I could be wrong, just haven’t heard of any arrests.
