“I’m not at liberty to go into much detail, but I know Canadians would understand when you’re saying the government of Canada is taking measures to protect national security, that’s serious.”

Read: We made shit up and everyone knows it.

So what it sounds like is they are shutting down their offices in Canada. So basically ruining people’s ability to get support or raise any issues. Are they just trying to make the experience so shitty that people naturally leave it?

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has warned Canadians, including teenagers, against using TikTok.

Teenagers, that demographic famous for listening to authority figures, will absolutely follow the CSIS guidelines.

Would be cool if they gave a tangible reason to back their eerie warning. But such is the nature of national security theatre, the mother of all security theatres, that you can say whatever you want with no accountability.

Interesting that the far-right opposition was absolutely incensed by the Liberal’s 2022 internet “misinformation” censorship proposal, but now that it’s TikTok in the crosshairs there isn’t a peep of criticism.

Very strange move. As someone else noted, they claim they don’t want data of their people in Chinese hands yet if it’s to still operate for Canadian users it would have to do so from outside their shores and entirely out of their legal jurisdiction, possibly from China.

I have to wonder if it’s a ban in all but name, that is they expect them to shut down the app for Canadians but want to say “look we didn’t prevent them from keeping the app running, we just shut down their division here, don’t blame us, blame them” as to kind of evade responsibility for it.

Otherwise I have to wonder if they think that preventing say ad revenue will get them to close up shop on their own or something. It’s just bizarre.
