USA in WW2, basically this meme:

They got involved only after it was very clear the soviets were gonna steamroll over Berlin and turn Europe red. The turning point of the war was Stalingrad, a full two years before the allies landed in Normandy.

Love that poll of France in there, where the support totally flipped. Capitalist propaganda is one helluva drug.

Yeah, that’s basically my reading as well. After it become obvious that USSR was going to win, US immediately jumped in to carve up Europe and protect its interests. I think the most effective aspect of US propaganda is that it’s subtle enough that most people don’t even notice there is a bias. And when they hear something that’s outside the accepted Overton window the immediate reaction is to dismiss it.

It is completely shocking that so many people believe this unfortunate lie. American historians have aggrandized the situation in the European theater of war to the exclusion of basically everything else that was going on at the time. Nobody really talks about the Yugoslavian partisans and their resistance to the Nazis. Nobody talks about the North African theater. They make the French out to be cowards that didn’t resist at all, but the fact is that the French army held out for weeks against the Nazis, even after the French government abandoned Paris. It disgusts me as a historian and really pisses on the bravery of those who stood against the Nazis despite the fact that they knew help wasn’t coming for a long damn time.
