The whole article is full of nonsense. For example, the whole squeezing narrative would be like saying the US is extracting every penny from its economy for an invasion in Iraq. Most people in Russia have a vague idea about this situation, but life just goes on as normal.

What I think is most interesting about the article is the angle that they’re pushing. It seems to be primarily about fostering fear regarding China’s growing influence. Additionally, there even appears to be an argument that Russia’s weakened state is not ideal for the west while characterizing the war in Ukraine as pointless. Their main fear is clearly over China emerging as a dominant player due to these geopolitical shifts, which will lead Russia and the Global South to align with China rather than Western nations.

So, once you cut past all the copium thrown in, the core point they make is that the west is more divided than ever, while the rest of the world is starting to rally around Russia and China.

Sowing an alliance between my resource rich but manufacturing poor enemy and my manufacturing rich but resource poor enemy: “HAHAHAHA THIS RULES, I LOVE SOWING, THIS WILL NEVER COME BACK TO HAUNT ME!”

Reaping the consequences of an alliance between my enemies who now complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses: “Nooooo! This sucks! Nobody ever told me I’d have to reap! I hate reaping! Mods! Mods! Ban Russia for hax!”

Literally all of this could have been avoided if the West put a hold on their chauvanism for a decade or two to get Russia on side. Nope, only looting and racism.

China isn’t even resource poor. They simply have not tapped into their resources. When they start mining the massive mountainous parts of the country…

China isn’t resource poor but it doesn’t have the surplus resources necessary to support an industrial export economy while providing for its own people.

Russia, on the other hand, has more resources than it’s population could conceivably consume. Hence, an export surplus to support the Chinese economy.

They probably won’t need Russian resources and will be free to dump this alliance
