When the republic was restored it slide into even more corrupted oligarchy than before, they didn’t even had proper deimperialization. In old canon there is plenty of stuff showing what hellhole it was and in the new the mere fact it got owned so hard by fringe black hundreds group point on utter ineffectiveness.
