• I have to give the bourgeoisie credit for the so-called “culture war”, it’s such an all-consuming thing in the realm of liberal discourse. It’s actually impossible to talk to people that are somewhat politically engaged without them bringing up some kind of culture war bullshit.

“Kid Rock” actually is a great name for a boomer chud musician.

The ‘kid’ part is perfect. Boomers see themselves as eternal kids, hence the whole anti-“woke” thing. They’re the cartoon 10 year old boy ‘oppressed’ by their 4th grade teacher. It shows of their immaturity (and their dating preferences) to a T.

The ‘Rock’ part is also them claiming counterculture status despite being one of the most accepted parts of american “culture”. Plus just like 4chan and Rock n’ Roll, the generation that started it is now the establishment but still postures itself as edgy when one of the most offensive things you can do in the US is say “be excellent to each other”.

Maybe the reason they care so much more about style than substance is that they know, deep down, that the libs do the same things materially. They have nothing but culture to struggle over.

It might also be the football isn’t as popular as music? I feel that more analysis would be needed before we can determine contributing factors in such a large community sample size.

I don’t think that’s really true. Liberals have generally been on top of the culture wars and I think it’s generally true that the majority of people around the world and in most points in history are not so socially reactionary. Hate has always been an effective motivator that reactionaries use to their advantage, but without astroturfing the reactionary agenda their side has little support.

In the US the reason the far right has gotten political power over the liberals isn’t because the far right won the culture war, it’s because the liberals can’t govern and can’t deliver on any positive program. Culturally speaking people are still way more invested in normie lib culture; Bad Bunny and Taylor Swift are the biggest artists, Hip Hop is the biggest music genre, movies like OBAA and Sinners are showered with near-universal praise, and the right is too anti-intellectual to even stand a chance at having a presence in academia so it’s also very lib and lefty dominated.

There’s really no arena of culture, save for legacy media and religion (where the Black Church and the Catholic Church are definitely not rocking with MAGA even if they aren’t exactly on the same wavelength as all the other lib institutions I mentioned), where the most central and hegemonic institutions are dominated by the far right’s preferred option. Nobody cares about Pureflix, TPUSA’s halftime show, or Tom McDonald. In the online world everything can be a bit of a funhouse mirror so obviously the chud slop streamers generally dominate Twitch, and yet the gaming space has been getting less white and less male every year, so I think little gremlins like Asmongold have their days numbered.

Keep in mind, compared to other types of media, gaming has the chuddiest consumers. And even in gaming, when the Splitgate 2 guy comes out with a parody MAGA hat during the Summer Games Fest it’s a huge controversy that basically kills their game’s commercial appeal. Is it such a huge controversy when someone says something vaguely lib coded? Any games out there that actually went broke after going woke? If anything, going anti-woke makes games go broke. Nobody wants to associate to the chuds, they’re so radioactive. Even in gaming.

I know you live in a deep red area and I empathize, personally I’m not in the US at all so I can only really hazard a guess based on what I see online. But it does seem to me like people are, on average, not really rocking with the extremely reactionary and cruel image of the Republican Party. They have their base who does rock with those things, but that’s not where the culture’s at; I think the culture is way to the left of either party but the Democrats can’t capitalize on the disalignment between Republicans and the masses because it would require them to betray the class interest of the donors.

The suggestion that the masses actually do fully believe in the cruelty and the bigotry of the far right ignores how hard the far right has to try to astroturf themselves into mass consciousness. In other words, I agree that they do set the narrative, that’s what the money is for, but they haven’t simply won over culture. There’s an argument that they can’t ever “win the culture war” because they can never be done with pushing an exclusionary and bigoted line, if people become convinced of the current one they’ll always push to be even more exclusionary until there’s no one left.

Soulless slop that never had a chance; it was competing with Overwatch which has (obviously very flawed) representation of racial and ethnic minorities and queer groups, which AFAIK was the whole reason Concord was ever considered “woke” anyway.
