There’s two straightforward reasons a universal healthcare program doesn’t work on a state level and needs to be federal.

One, it’s not really universal if it only extends to the border of the state. Anyone visiting from out of state is still going to have their insurance which means doctors are still going to have deals with private insurance companies. Single payer requires a single payer to keep costs in line.

Second, the federal government has the advantage of being able to deficit spend to keep universal healthcare solvent that states don’t. MMT keeps the lights on.

  • What bothers me about this isn’t Third Way adopting a weaselly triangulation that appeals to no one. That’s a “fork found in kitchen” situation.

    No, it’s this:

Third Way, in a memo to Democrats shared first with NBCNews

Putting the thinnest, slimiest veneer of journalism on what is just PR boosting. There’s no news here, nothing of importance, just some lanyards’ opinion being laundered as news; the headline doesn’t identify who is warning, giving the impression of this being a general sentiment, and the body fails to make clear the political bias of the group in question.

  • Whenever I see something like this, my first thought is always “how did this person rise to the position of CEO without mastering the art of the neutral non-answer to shit like this?” Like, corporate boards want to make profits, they want the CEO to project “competently run company,” you’d think they’d filter the CEO for not saying things like “banning the AI lolicon generator is just political suppression of the lolicon political parties.”
