Technically this was an act of war against Germany. I’m becoming convinced that fucking over German industry was a major goal behind the war.

Washington has always been terrified of Russia and Germany becoming economically integrated with each other.

And instead they managed to create an alliance between Russia and China which is even more powerful. If Germany wasn’t ruled by a US puppet regime then they could’ve been part of that.

Because when you remove the primitive teritory grab ambition, Russia and Germany are natural allies, Germany have Europe most powerful industry and one of the best infrastructures while Russia have resources and food Germany needs, they are also quite close and have good access through Baltic. It almost happened once btw even between pretty much hostile governments (Treaty of Rapallo), and it shown signs of happening again in XXI century. So it’s also only natural that any outsize power keen on dominating Europe (UK and then US) need to break this potential alliance hard.

PS. it happened even with landgrabs and without industry once, in the Holy Alliance which grabbed Europe hard for decades.

Depend how you define “ally”. Since Germany is in NATO, military alliance is out of the question, but up to last year the prospect of serious economical alliance was real. And that would undermine NATO itself by increasing Germany control over EU and eroding USA influence.

Or at least everyone thought this is happening, but it turned out that the german elites with Merkel on the lead were and are in fact american compradors who only opportunistically wriggled under in the USA boot, because what i just wrote paragraph above would be in best interest of Germany, yet what happened is the opposite.

I doubt they can now turn around, but if the current government was toppled by protest and something less compradory emerged (idk if that’s possible, extent of US inflitration of german political class could be much worse than i suspect, i was terribly wrong about it last year), they could again ride both sides which would be more beneficial to both Germany and Russia. Eventually it will happen anyway, but as everything moving in Europe, it can only move either with NATO consent or when NATO wane. So it’s all again come to the USA being the pillar of global imperialism, just as Che Guevara said 70 years ago.

Michael Hudson, an economist, said the Russia beef is really just the US trying to keep Western Europe particularly Germany under its sphere of influence.

It’s sort of a thing that everyone knows, but nobody in the west talks about.
