No state level actor would tell us about a future extinction event (asteroid, solar flare, volcano eruption, etc) , because it would cause too much panic.

Eh, this falls into the same problem that many conspiracy theories do. There is no way you are going to be able to get every country, leader, government, scientist, organization, and group on the same page to stage a coverup like this. Especially if those entities hate each other. For example I could never see the US and Chinese governments banding together to hide any type of secret.

Also a lot of these would also be nearly impossible to cover up, as things like asteroids, and volcanic eruptions can be very easily detected by independent civilian organizations and not only state actors.

I agree with that argument in this case, but it’s a very overused, and often bad argument. For example, with the moon landing, it’s definitely possible to have that many people conspiring, it’s much easier to debunk it by pointing out simple facts like it would’ave been more money to fake it than to do the real thing at the time. It’s the sort of argument that is used to say “it’s impossible for the class consciousness bourgeoisie to be conspiring to oppress the working class, because that’s too many people to coordinate.”

I of course don’t believe that argument works all the time, I was just pointing out that getting hostile state actors to work together would be a near impossible herculean feat.

Like you mentioned with the moon landing example, I feel that my argument works well in support of other evidence, not just as a standalone infallible point.

Although… when the ‘odd scientist’ (actually thousands of them) warn about an extinction level event, it doesn’t mean much unless the state confirms it. Near one end of the scale is Covid. Near the other end is climate change. I’m using ‘state’ pretty loosely here to refer to organised capital / the organised ruling class.

True, however if it is a major issue, there is bound to be states that recognize it, even if it is only in their self interest. For example how Italy raised every alarm possible during the beginning of Covid since they were being overrun with lethal cases and soaring transmission, while everyone still thought Covid was just a bad flu.

What I meant is that for ALL states, organization, and groups to be silent would be a near impossible task. Especially if those groups dispise each other, making them conspiring even more unlikely.

I think that’s counterintuitive. I think a state-level actor would most likely tell people about it eventually, but it depends on the country. Like China or Russia or Cuba.
