It isn’t popular among Amerikkkans mostly because some poor soldier boys got PTSD and trauma from massacring villages…

The majority could care less about the horrific American war crimes committed. Many don’t even know about their existence.

That’s how it is now, but the war really was extremely unpopular among the American public even before soldiers started coming home. Student protests in particular got so big that the national guard was called on several of them and at Kent State, they shot 4 students dead. Also notable is the guy who immolated himself in front of the pentagon (Norman Morrison) and the speech MLK Jr. did a year before he was assassinated.

The person who made the tweet is legitimately more chauvinistic than the people who actually went to war.

And the number of soldiers who were drafted but ended up fragging their own commanding officers is seriously under reported.

There are stories of Vietnam vets who were charged with murder after allegedly fragging their officers’ mess. The prosecutions failed and they were freed. Incredibly difficult to prove who threw a grenade.

Obligatory reminder what happened to lt. Calley. He got off with light slap on hand and was publicly hailed as hero. And that was one guy who actually fucked up to cover his warcrime and was judged.

War might be unpopular for part of US population, but was completely justified along with all atrocities to the other major part.
