IIRC there’s a bit about the WTC being destroyed by the time of the game’s story. The authors added it because of issues with rendering WTC on the horizon.
Not quite. The background is a static image of New York, and because of hardware limitations they had to cut the WTC, therefore it does not appear as part of the city, which is just a coincidence, as stated by the developers.
They went pretty overboard too… Another pointless one is the movie donnie darko got its theatrical release cancelled because a plane crashes into a house.
In Deus Ex terrorist also sttack the Ststue of Liberty and it w as released before 9/11 so it is also pretty weird.
