Why? Russian military has its own drones. Certainly reconnaissance ones. Even drone tanks, something I’m pretty sure USA doesn’t have
At least according to one telegram account (asbmil), it’s more about how Iran has reverse-engineered the US’s tech so Russia can use these drones without fear of them getting captured/examined by the US (via Ukrainians)
asbmil seems generally a little less bombastic than some of the other Russian reporting on the war (looking at you intelslavaZ) so… take that as you will.
Interesting take. Thank you for sharing!
“Drone tanks” as in remote-controlled tanks?
Yup. These and a few other models: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uran-9
Official news report they’ve been field tested in Syria.
Interesting. Wonder why they’re not as common as drones (in terms of how many armies use them, not quantities of drones vs. tanks – obviously, drones are much cheaper)
From what I understand there’s an issue of control. An aerial drone is easier to keep in contact with the operator, whereas a ground drone could get blocked by walls. There’s also the matter of purpose - a UAV could be used for reconnaissance and for extrajudical assassination. A ground drone could be used for clearing up minefields (there’s one such version of Uran AFAIK). I don’t have information on how useful they are in combat, given the efficiency of modern anti-tank weapons.
Interesting (again). The issue of wireless connectivity being blocked by physical objects definitely makes sense
Yeah
