    Don’t forget VW was founded by Hitler to serve as nationalized vehicle industry - and its CEOs were untouched and completely allowed to fund politicians, and was lauded as a defining brand by the west

      The make good cars or are you seriously saying a manufacturing brand is reflective of the ideology. If so what of the Trabant?

        The people put in charge of the company were all chosen for being party-men. meaning, they were diehard Nazis who Hitler could trust to run the company. None of them faced trial.

      When the GDR was rebuilding its military they mostly drew officers from German antifascist fighters in Spain. They did fill in some gaps from Wehrmacht officers who were cycled out very quickly. A good source on this is Viktor Grossman’s A Socialist Defector. He is anti-Stalin (nobody’s perfect, and it doesn’t come up much in the book), but he does support the idea of what the GDR was trying to accomplish overall and how horrible the Wende was
