It seems that Vietnam has also been one of the biggest buyers of Israeli weapons for 4 years.

Not just that they literally were one of the biggest buyers for 7 years, stopped buying for 2 and just decided to lift trading restrictions at the height of a genocide

From 2015 to 2019, Vietnam was among the top three buyers of Israeli arms, accounting for 8.5 percent of total sales by Israel during that period, according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

Israel’s Haaretz newspaper reported in 2022 that, over the past decade, Vietnam purchased an estimated $1.5bn in defence equipment from Israeli, including ground-to-air missile systems, phone-hacking technology and drones.

In the past two years, however, there were no recorded arms deals between Vietnam and Israel, according to recent SIPRI data.

Venezuela, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua and Bolivia also broke relations with Israel. Brazil, Colombia and Chile (Yes, even Boric) have recalled their diplomats.

This is not only repugnant for obvious reasons, but incredibly stupid and negligent. For all we know, those weapons can be compromised. What if this is another explosive pagers situation?

We are not going to use the imported weapons as-is. We have the ability to reverse-engineer them, and we did so, the result is that we have our own defense industry now.

To add to this, the better weapons like hypersonics and air defense, isntrael doesn’t even have or have the good versions of.

The only tech that comes from isntrael is shady black mirror shit like looking inside your cell phone or having your cell phone explode and the only reason they have that tech is because daddy america gives them impunity, both PR and tangible. Does anyone think other countries can’t do shady shit like them if they really wanted? But they would be a pariah afterwafds. They aren’t even that advanced, it’s all a myth.

I was looking if there were demonstrations in favor of Palestine in Vietnam because of this, but couldn’t find anything yet.

While this is fucking disgusting, and it’s wrong that Israel receives a shit ton of money from this, the more positive side of me would rather that Vietnam buy weapons from Israel, than sell weapons to them. Which would be a metric-shit ton worse and more disgusting.

That all being said, this is fucking anger-inducing. Even China’s foreign policy makes more sense than this.

There are no excuses for anyone doing business with the genocidal entity. This goes for China, Turkey, Russia, the Gulf States, Vietnam, etc. If we aren’t able to be critical of doing business with an entity literally engaged in the wiping out of an entire people, then we really have no principles. If we are talking about business and economic benefits of doing so, why don’t we just become imperialists also.

To add to this, why should regular people BDS McDonald’s and Starbucks, while entire countries do billions in business with them. Imagine the impact if countries like China, Vietnam, Russia, etc stop doing business with them. Some people will defend anything as long as someone they like is the one doing it. There is always an excuse. DPRK and Mao’s China fought the empire mere months after being born. This isn’t even asking them to fight. Smh

That they have no real standards, and will seek relations with anyone everywhere regardless of what is going on.

For the record, this type of fp isn’t unique to China (Russia pre-ukraine comes to mind.)

It never works in the end, you can’t work with everyone all the time.

I think China does a pretty decent job of this, but the leave a lot of room to be desired
